What's the deal with Friday Catholic weddings in BR?

Inconvenient AF.

Better than an LSU game day wedding.

There’s only three times a weekend that you can have a wedding: Friday night, Saturday midday, or Saturday night. Why are you complaining about 1/3rd if marriages?

I used to be a little
about it, but after attending 6 of them in less than a year, I appreciate it being done Friday & not monopolizing the rest of my weekend.
The Catholic weddings I’ve attended up north involved an early Saturday wedding followed by a several hour wait before the evening reception. Those were inconvenient AF.

that's a big game after last year... an apple corer is too good for them. Plastic soap dish that wasn't even on the registry is the right answer here.

You can’t have a Catholic Wedding on Saturday night in the Baton Rouge Diocease

If they are local, I enjoy Friday weddings. Really sucks for people out of town though.
My favorite out of town wedding is a sunday wedding on a monday holiday. Gives you more time and don't have to take a day off of work.
As said, the reason for Friday weddings is they wanted a certain weekend and the other Saturday spots were booked at the church.

Which is why I vastly prefer Friday night to an early Saturday wedding & late reception (which I’ve only experienced up north, where plated dinner receptions are the norm). I don’t want to have to kill 6 hours wearing dress clothes between events.

Getting married during football season is a no no. Eventually your anniversary is going to fall on the biggest game of the year.

There are 8 months of the year that someone can wed that wouldn’t interfere with this.

Keeps the trash out of your wedding

I'll answer my own question:
quote:
Friday night weddings can be a challenge, with out-of-town guests scrambling to arrive on time and work-weary revelers bringing a less-than-energetic vibe to the ceremony. But if you are Catholic and want to have a nighttime wedding in Baton Rouge, on Friday it’ll be. Otherwise, you can travel down the road to St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, for instance, another church in the Crescent City or somewhere else in Baton Rouge’s outlying areas. A lot of brides do. And with them, loads of bridal business trickles downstream and away from our city, along with the waters of the Mighty Mississippi. The rumored reason is because there simply aren’t enough priests in Baton Rouge to celebrate afternoon masses on Saturday and masses on Sunday, plus weddings. Another theory: priests need Saturday nights off—to pray for the Tigers, perhaps? That’s blatant conjecture. The real reason, courtesy of Father Than Vu, Vicar General of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, has more to do with keeping Sunday sacred than keeping priests from performing ceremonies on Saturday nights. “On Saturday, the anticipated mass is celebrated at around four o’clock,” he says. Weddings and other ceremonies are put on hold “in order to preserve the integrity of the Sunday celebration, once it starts.” On a church-by-church basis, some New Orleans parishes will allow couples to get married on a Saturday night, making for a much better second line down Bourbon Street, not to mention the appreciation of Catholic guests who get their Sunday obligations out of the way at the wedding. But not all New Orleans churches allow weddings on Saturdays, either. Much of the decision depends on how many priests work in the parish and the Saturday mass schedule. By the way, Catholic churches don’t do funerals on Saturday nights, either.

I've never heard of a night funeral.

They’re great. Get drunk after. Recover next morning. Then get drunk again Friday. It’s always a big reunion. Love em.

Most priests don’t allow a Nuptial Mass after the Sabbath has begun with the Saturday Vigil Mass @4:30. So your options are Friday evening or Saturday morning with a Mass or after 5:30 Saturday without a Mass.

I've never heard of an Arch of NOLA church to refuse a Sat night wedding. Even in single-priest parishes. Do the 4 pm old person mass, run back to the rectory for a bit, head to the church, 7 pm wedding, then they to the reception for about an hour and head home.
