In england, Diana by a mile. People were hysterical.

In usa, Michael Jackson.

Both top the death nominees lists because unexpected shock and had fans. Both involved outside agents, blame/anger.

Legit issues raised about paparazzi re royals and entertainment stars such as bieber. The intrusive harassment is ceaseless. Grocery rags with telephoto lens shots of family scenes or topless swim in home pool.

Diana,

That would be my guess.I was born in 61',so I was 2 when JFK was killed.

I think Diana was a person that was adored worldwide, and was mourned worldwide after her sudden death.

John Lennon or Dianna.

Jackson was big. But he was coming off the rails. And he was cringeworthy at best when he died.

RFK and MLK were mentioned. I'm too young but I bet it felt like the world was gonna burn.

You do not realize but America has been nothing but a corpse being paraded around for years Weekend At Bernie's style.

The Dems killed it.

When I can not say exactly but sometime in the last 25 years is when.

Yeah, Robin Williams killing himself shook me.

I've been numb to celebrity deaths for my whole life, but this one struck a chord. Something about a man who brought so much happiness to so many people being so despondent, then you add on his suicide in the context of movies like World's Greatest Dad, What Dreams May Come, and Dead Poets Society.

Car wrecks and drug ODs really don't phase or surprise me.

Yes, I don't think there's really any comparison with all the others mentioned in this thread. These two deaths probably had a bigger impact on the U.S. and the world than all the others put together.

There is no telling how differently the civil rights movement would have played out with MLK's steadying influence. His murder injected a bitterness into the entire movement which also fueled the backlash we are still seeing today.

RFK might very well have won the presidency in 1968 if he had not been killed. If so, there would have been no Watergate, which was really the death knell for people's trust in the government and the beginning of the extreme adversarial relationship between media and politicians. Also, as with King, his death brought a bitterness to the progressive elements who supported him which, again, generated a backlash that we are still seeing today. Our entire political discourse might have been completely different if he had lived.

These two men, had they not been killed, might very well have enabled us to avoid the hopelessly poisonous political and racial environment we live in today.

LOL

Diana was as famous and still regularly in public life

MJ was already a freakshow recluse who hadn't done anything of note in a long time
