100%

While not always 100% effective one thing to try is putting it in the freezer for several days. I bag up shoes when they get horribly smelly and freeze them for a while and it is amazing the difference it makes the order in most cases is nearly undetectable.

hand wash with dish soap or shampoo. Fill up the sink and let it soak in it, rinse and either let air dry or dry it with a hair dryer.

This is true, the bacteria is what your are smelling. Same with why shoes stink, its bacteria poop.

I have a weird urge to buy that plastic mold thing and wear it around like a hat.

Step 1 - toss used hat in trash
Step 2 - buy a new hat

On things I would buy used I would put underwear above a hat. And for perspective Underwear is third to last.

Correction. Underwear is fourth.

Underwear
Hats
Gum
Condom

Might have been an old military hat for all you know. Or one of those navy hats with the actual ships mentioned on them.

A can of Lysol spray works ... if the Karens haven’t bought them all up.

The sticker is still rocking my ride. I've looked for Dale jackets at many garage sales but never found any. Maybe I should start checking the garage sales in nicer neighborhoods.

I’d put it in the dishwasher with one of those hat things designed to be used in the dishwasher.

Who wants some nasty NASCAR fan's old cap where their dishes go?

Try the washer, with a bunch of baking soda, and vinegar in the rinse cycle.

Probably won’t help. Probably should look for less nicer neighborhood garage sales. Alabama would be a great start.

The smell is from bacteria. Douse it in alcohol. It won't change the color of the hat, but it will kill the bacteria and ultimately the smell.

You bought a used baseball cap at a garage, and you're worried about it losing its shape?

Fine. Spray it with Axe.

I generally throw my hats in the washer,I'm not washing them in the dish washer.

They come out fine.

I'm not wearing a hat that belongs to someone else.
