If you enjoy something other than just getting drunk about having a drink, then there you go, that's why you do it.

If you're trying to avoid getting drunk for any number oreason.s including not liking the feeling of being drunk of because you take seriously the biblical instruction to keep a sober mind, then the best way to avoid that aside from not drinking would be to
quote:

quit as soon as they feel a hint of a buzz.

If you're drinking solely to get drunk, you're likely an alcoholic or at least very immature.

Those people are lame

What's lame is thinking people who behave responsibly are lame.

If you've had a long day and have a headache and/or stressed out, its nice to have a glass of wine or a stiff drink to take the edge off.

I wouldn’t know. I’ve never been able to do it. If I could drink without completely destroying my life, I’d do it all day, everyday.

When I do drink I never have more than 2 drinks. Usually something strong like a martini. Works for me. I get a little buzz but I don’t get stupid.

Spinoff: why do they get worse? A 21 year old can get obliterated and make his 8:30 class. A 40 year old is lucky to stumble in to work by noon.

If I drink I drink to get and maintain a buzz.

I never drink 1 or 2 drinks even socially. That is a waste of time and I'm perfectly fine with a glass of water, tea, or soda at social or work events instead of having 1 or 2 drinks which is useless.

On the flip side I never drink to get drunk. Being fricked up drunk is zero fun as well.

Happy buzz, maintain.

A shitfaced twentysomething is somewhat expected. Someone shitfaced 30 or over is sad and disturbing, and becomes moreso the older they are.

Your body isn’t the same when you are older.

Seems pretty obvious. When I was 18 I could sleep on a hard wood floor, bounce up when I awoke and go for a run. Nowadays if I slept on a floor it would literally take 20 minutes to loosen my back.

Because buzzed is good, and you are in control of what happens after the party.

Drunk, you go from nailing that OT8 to not being able to even hit her OT2 wingman.

Besides, there are much better options than alcohol... much better.

By the time you're 50, you have very little ability to bounce back. I enjoy scotch and bourbon -- a LOT -- but I am getting too old to handle the aftermath. Crushed the single malt this weekend at the Grand Hotel. I feel like roadkill.

Wife seems ready to give up drinking forever. If she does, I'm with her.

I like scotch and bourbon but I can't handle liquor anymore. I pretty much only drink beer and wine. Liquor is just too damn strong

I usually don't drink liquor or cocktails if I don't intend to get a buzz because in that case, I'd rather just have iced tea, water, or juice. Beer is a different story. I'll actually drink a beer or two just for the taste or because it goes well with my dinner.

I probably wouldn't drink much at all if I could smoke a fat hooter occasionally

Not worth losing my job over though

Also pairs well with a good beer.

Well I love the taste of a good beer, bourbon, or wine. Sometimes I just want to drink one because it tastes really good and it knocks the edge off of a hard day. I really love a hoppy IPA after mowing my yard or with crawfish, but I dont really want to get drunk.

Ultimately, if you can't understand that, it's of little consequence to me.
