impossible unless you get into drugs/alcohol or get arrested. i'm not saying party and frick off. but find out what you're passionate about and then pursue it with the fire of a thousand suns.

im not the OP but im interested in this thread. im already struggling to get legitimate work experience that will actually help me in the future. i feel like you need a lot of money to make any of these fun decisions, or at least something to fall back on.

even for OP, who i know IRL, it seems pretty dangerous career wise to just leave a job and then take time to just go do shite. obviously, this is a pussy attitude, but i dont see how it works logistically unless you are already set career wise.

I was close to doing this. How has it turned out for you? The amount of debt scared the shite out of me.

The burbs suck. Period. I have a house in the city, am married with a baby. Would never live in the burbs. Boring restaurants, boring shopping, boring everything. No offense to those that live there, its just not for me.

Ballsiest things ever done? Went to Europe by myself for a summer. Best summer of my life.

I hated Portland in 2007

The suburbs suck.

People live there because they can't afford a truly desirable place.

Russian women know what's up. Everybody was poor except the mafia. They didn't expect you to take them out to dinner and a movie. You really needed a bed buddy to keep warm. Having sex with a girl that you can't communicate with AND is not a hooker, is awkward and awesome. They pretty much know the small talk is impossible, so then we became like monkeys. ..just add vodka.

Yeah, there are a few things holding me back from pulling a "power move" as I describe it.

First, I have to stay at the company I work at thru the spring semester of college, since I technically don't get my diploma until I've earned course credit for this job (huge frickup w/ the advising office). So I can't do anything until then, or else I don't have a diploma.

Next, I've got student loans to pay off. Since I live at home and have next to no expenses, I could probably pay them off in close to a year. But until then I'm tied down.

I think the key thing is... before you make a power move, you have to be in a power position. I'm not gonna just leave my job and blindly move to the west coast with debt. I've gotta get my affairs in order, save up some money, get a job lined up, and then frick life in the arse.

How did you afford to move around so much? Did you save a lot of money in each city? Did you do the same type of work in each location?

Um, no. I live in the burbs cause I work from home, my house is 1/2 the price of an inner loop home, I have a large yard, and do not feel like I live in a concrete jungle. Also, I can send my kids to the school down the street and it is just as good as a $20k/yr private school. While inner loopers are praying that their house appreciates to fund their retirement, my home is paid off and my portfolio is diversified. It is called smart planning. And if I ever need something downtown, I can jump in my car and go there

You say no, but all the reasons you listed were money related.

City life > lolSuburban life for the vast majority of people, whether they admit it or not.

Damn. I always thought my parents had dated for like 6 years before they got married. Found out not too long ago that my dad proposed after 3 months of dating my mom.

When was this/how old were you?

I was 23. I am now 33 and still married to the girl who was 18. In hindsight I would marry her again but I wouldn't suggest a similar course of action for anyone. Coulda gone WAY WRONG!

Interesting spin. I guess it's still better than vivid ink and Chelsea's though.
