I don't think I have ever experienced this while eating at a sidewalk cafe.

Selfies and social media of course... don't be silly

You realize sidewalk cafes predate the advent of social media, right?

Is this a common problem for you or just day dreaming about what urban environments might be like?

In Europe, in spring and fall, it's a great way to watch people and get over jet lag.
I was in Leon, Spain, and found a really nice cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating. Beautiful fall day and I joined everyone outside. Still have memories of some of the people and children there.

I’m a Trumplican, and I enjoy a nice sidewalk cafe. The joke is on you snowflake.

Whats the appeal of outdoor malls? During thunderstorms and Lewzianer heat an enclosed mall seems better.

I imagine throughout human history the large majority of "meals" have been eaten outside.

They're amazing.

In chicago when the weather gets warm people are everywhere eating, drinking, partying. Tons of outdoor options. Great people watching and tons of talent walking around, especially in neighborhoods like old town.
