Just learned this. Mind sufficiently blown. Although I can't imagine drinking 1 oz of liquor.

I was about 20 before I found out the grass between a 4 lane is called the neutral ground not NUTRIA ground. Growing up in lafourche Parrish, I just figured that's where all the nutria hang out so it made sense to me.

Unfortunately, this is false.

Somehow I missed the word "cursive" growing up. When my first kid was in 2nd? grade in came home talking about writing cursive. After about the 4th time I, very irritatedingly, asked him, Who is this Cursive? (i thought it was a pen-pal or something). Still turn red thinking about it.

Just two days ago I taught someone I work with that there six moon landings by Apollo spacecraft where astronauts walked on the moon.

He was totally convinced that it was only one mission and probably faked.

Why did you waste time talking to him?

Let him empty the trash can and leave.

For the longest time I didn't know that the blue reflectors on streets were marking fire hydrants.

I must admit, I didn't know that there was an arrow on the fuel gauge on most cars that tells you which side of the car to fill it with until recently.

Yeah, this was my guilty one as well. Always had it on the right side of the car to where I never thought about it, but in my last jobs when I was driving rentals and had to turn them in every month or so, this drove me crazy for a while until I figured this out.

Also, people who think that Africa is a country.

I swear to God I had a geography teacher who thought this. He was a baseball coach, and dumber than dirt. I knew way more about geography than he did. I'll never forget it:

"This unit we'll be studying the country of Africa"
".....Coach, Africa is a continent."
"Well you're right in saying that, but like Australia, it is also a country."

The guy also thought NYC was the capital of New York.

On I-10 between Jacksonville and LA the only place it becomes 1 lane permanently is......you guessed it, good ole BR.

That's probably true all the way to its end in California. It is if I recall to the 8/10 spilt in Arizona

When I was about 10 years old a friend of mine and I were at a gas station with my Mom. He didn't know how to put gas in a car.

I could see maybe a 10 y/o or a not-yet driving teenager even not knowing this. But as a senior in high school, I drove to New Orleans with a school acquaintance & her mom. We needed gas around Baton Rouge. I couldn't figure out why we kept driving around looking for a certain type of gas station. We finally had to stop for gas, and both the mother & daughter admitted that they had never pumped gas before, and could I do it?

Seems the gas station near their house was full service, and they'd never gotten gas anywhere else.

Lol, when I was in elementary school, I thought there was a founding father or someone really important named Richard Stands. It's probably my teacher's and classmates' fault for not saying the pledge more clearly, but I had never seen it written out, or it may have been before I could read, I dunno. "And to republic, for Richard Stands, one nation...." Still cracks me up.

I show my girlfriend a thousand things a day. I love her to death, but she was apparently raised by wolves and has no clue about tons of everyday things.

She showed me this, though, and I was stunned. She was so excited haha.

I learned a few weeks ago that certain states ban self service gas stations. There's someone on duty 24/7 to pump your gas for you.

I knew this was the case, but always wondered why I-110 in BR was even numbered since it runs north/south.

When I get time, I want to go back through this thread and count the number of people that didn't know this / recently learned this, and how many people checked their vehicles since this thread started.

Had someone ask me if I knew which day of the week Thanksgiving fell on this year. Guy legitimately thought it was just a coincidence it had been on a Thursday for the "last few years".

Once had an acquaintance of my Dad's comment "Have you ever noticed that Christmas and New Year's Day are always on the same day?"(of the week).
