What's scarier, the idea that we are alone in the universe or the idea that we aren't?

Neither are scary.

We aren't but life is such a rare and odd occurence that we might as well be alone.

The scariest idea is that somehow, among the universe, we are the most advanced species alive.

Given the scope of the universe, it's extremely unlikely we're alone.

It's terrifying if it's just this planet full of 'tards.

That we are alone.

It means we likely haven't crossed whatever qualifier has taken out everyone else.

The idea that there are trillions and trillions of hydrogen, Carbon, Oxygen, and Helium atoms combining to form what we see as our reality.

I think what's scary/humbling to think about is that, if they wanted to be a villain, some crazy head of state could effectively topple the first domino that extincts humanity. Like if a country with the resources drops a bomb on Los Angeles or NYC, the chaos the world would be thrown into would be extinction level. All it takes is one crazy sumbitch with nothing to lose

its essentially the same thing from our perspective IMO.

Even if we aren't alone, we won't see anyone.

This isn't really true IMO. The scope of the universe only looks at one half of the equation. Thinking of all the building blocks necessary to create intelligent life and the extreme violence seen in the universe, which could snuff out a potential intelligent lifeform before it evolves to that level, I don't think its crazy to think we may be the only intelligent lifeform.

Neither.

If I had to pick maybe slightly scarier if we aren't alone. The chance of there being a highly more intelligent species that is warlike is slightly scary.

The chances of them existing compounded with them being in our area, finding us, and us having what they want are extremely low.

In our galaxy we are considered "in the sticks". If you use earth as a microcosm nobody is looking to conquer greenland.

But it kind of is. Even if you take the other things you mentioned, it's still probably more likely than not that intelligent life has made it at least one other time.

I trust in God and the idea that he only put living creatures on Earth is a little pompous.

Neither thought is really scary... but if there really are hundreds of billions of galaxies that have hundreds of billions of stars, then it would be one incredible waste of energy for us to be the only intelligent life.

There are hundreds of trillions of worlds. There's a statistical certainty that it would repeat itself at least once.

Many have lived before and many will after...but we still may be alone right now.

It is also quite numerically possible that many advanced, intelligent civilizations were born, flourished and then disappeared long before we got our start.

I also believe we aren’t alone by a long shot but there is no chance we get to visit them under this quarantine.
