While I'd never turn down a nice trip somewhere, from that list, the countries at the back of my list (for various reasons) are...

Greece
Turkey
Israel
Korea

Ireland and Iceland would be fun for a couple of days (maybe a bit longer for golf in Ireland), but no more than that. Canada is great, but I've spent so much time there all over the country that I wouldn't go out of my way to go there, either.

I actually got married in Greece last year and we are planning our honeymoon in Ireland to visit all the distilleries.

Yeah, I agree that Turkey isn't a first world country. They probably get lumped in due to being a NATO member. Ever since the time they left Christianity or were invaded by the muslims, they have had major issues.

I have a cousin who has traveled all over the world, and he said his favorite city was Istanbul. It’s too crazy to visit at this time though.

We considered going on our honeymoon, but in the early stages of research there was a suicide bombing outside of a church and we wrote it off at that point.

Russia

The First World was NATO, the Second World the USSR and her allies.

The Third World were the non aligned countries.

I will pitch Russia though. It’s an incredibly cheap places to visit. Airfare is no more expensive than it is to Europe, and everything from food to hotels is very affordable.

You’ll feel like a rich man.

The food is also good, the cultural sites are interesting, the Russian people are very kind.

Border control still glower at you though, so you still get a little of that Soviet era experience.

It is strange at times though, there’s a Vietnamese restaurant in Gorky Park, where all the staff are dressed up in black áo bà bas. There’s some revolutionary branding as well.

Walking out, I wondered - was that a Vietcong themed restaurant?

Russia is not a heavily touristed country and so they take great pride in welcoming you in, and showing it off. I found that true almost everywhere.

I had a restaurant owner bring a bottle of wine and join us at our table one evening. There was a sense that I was not a customer, I was a guest.

-

It is a poor country by comparison, and you really see it. They’re not our peer in power or resources.

Australia is an incredible place to visit once on a long vacation (multiple weeks), but you can see everything you'd really want to see there in one long trip. It is also one long arse flight.

The upside is that Australians really are very similar to Americans - much moreso in my experience than any country in the world besides Canada. It's an especially awesome place if you're single.

In the same vein, the downside is that Australians really are very similar to Americans - culturally, you don't feel like you're traveling or visiting anything really new except geography and wildlife. And there are some really physically beautiful places, but the vast majority of the country is hot, dry, and flat, and everyone lives in like four cities.

They’re not allies. And they worked with the Soviets during the Cold War, when it benefited them.

Moscow is pretty expensive. My dad lived there for 2-3 years.

Don't think it qualifies as first world, but I loved my trip there.

There isn't a first world country I wouldn't travel to.

There are also many second and third world countries that I have enjoyed traveling to and many more I still want to go to.

Turkey is awesome. Anyone skipping out on turkey is missing out.

I’ve been to Canada, but out of everything I deem 1st world, Canada has to be the most boring and vanilla.

probably the UK or Canada.

It seems like if you even think a conservative thought, much less speak it - they’ll arrest you or that’s where they are headed.

You do know that Boris Johnson is the Prime Minister, and that he is the head of the Conservative Party, yes?

That means that Conservatives have the majority in the UK.

It is weird how fragile some of the people on here are.
