I have a relative that simply can’t work any longer and we are trying to help her get some assistance.
Luckily she owes nothing so it wouldn’t take much money.

Will depend on her average salary and how many quarters she has worked, not depends on Louisiana

I'd suggest filing, getting the documentation that you've filed, and go ahead and call your congress person. Just skip the BS and make it happen. The State worker at the desk ain't gonna do any more than required.

We had been working on getting disability for a close relative for over 2 years, 3 attempts. Finally had to hire a lawyer. Once the lawyer was hired it went through on the first try. This relative of mine had 2 strokes and a grand mal seizure within 26 months. Due to the stroke she's 50% blind in both eyes, has severe muscle tremors, and cognitive deficits.....and it still took 3 tries and a lawyer. She was approved in March and still doesn't know the amount, they are saying maybe Julyish before first payment. Good Luck, sincerely.

You should probably talk to an attorney. Did she have a work accident? Has she applied for SSDI?

Just numerous health problems.

Didn’t realize it was such a lengthy process.
Have an attorney in our family. Prob let him handle it

It should be a difficult process. Make it hard for cheaters to steal taxpayer money.

the story above is the standard operating procedure for disability courts, they auto deny the 1st 2 court hearings hoping you die or just give up and after the 3rd or 4th hearing they finally give it to you.

as far as i know the base minimum benefit is around $1k a month and thats what most people will get. its adjusted upwards if you had a really good paying job for many years

I tried for two years and it was hell. Disability dr said my heart was fine and body was fine. Month later was rushed to hospital. Dr said I was hours from having a massive heart attack. Then following year they found I was born with narrow spinal canal and was almost paralyized. They called me in the hospital after surgery and said no problem with disability.

Must be good, my neighbor is on it, has her own house in Nola and drinks and smokes as much as she can afford.

No. Most people get less than $900 a month here.

Per IRS.Gov, “The monthly maximum Federal amounts for 2021 are $794 for an eligible individual”.

There’s SSI which is not based on any work history. The max is $794 a month. SSDI is based on a person’s work record. Amount varies.

SSA.gov will tell you an estimate when you create an account with her info.

From my experience with coworkers, what the others are saying is true...everyone gets rejected a couple of times. Be prepared for this and don’t get frustrated. It is just a part of the process, and if someone really is disabled, they will generally get it.

Disability are not generally a lot of money, but when used along with other social programs and charities, basic needs can be met.

let this thread highlight the importance of purchasing disability insurance when you are young and healthy enough to afford it
