So someone slams a door and people freak out to the point of almost half the police force there and the hospital on lockdown. Can you say hysterical reaction?
Let's just say this- there's quite a few people working up there that are wondering when, not if, a shooting will happen. Has nothing to do with demographics, it has to do with the behavior and actions we're being confronted with, on basically a daily basis.

Was a psych patient losing his shite. Slammed a door, knocked some shite down. People in the room had shite under control, people on the outside thought it was a gunshot.

This is right. And when someone shouts "that was a gun!" You dont question it. Call the nurses stupid but anyone would do the same when someone yells those words.

Psych patient alleged to have a gun. Someone heard a door slam... panic ensued...fast track and entire a-side of er cleared by swat team.. In that moment OLOL's last paying customer said "frick this I'm going to bluebonnet "

This "overreaction" is a result of the subconscious fear by staff that the threat of violence by the patients and/or visitors is real.
When rival gang shooting victims get taken to the same hospital, it's time for metal detectors.
When the psychiatric patient volume doubles, it's time for metal detectors.
It's a public perception concern, and that's why they aren't there yet.

Well, I guess this answers the thread how to pull off a bank heist in your town.

I swear making OLOL the new charity hospital was the dumbest idea ever. That's really what you want. Bring the dregs of society into the middle of the city.

That was a retarded decision. There was a big giant empty woman's hospital right on Airline which was much closer to north BR than OLOL is. That was an epic EBR failure.

Supposedly EBRSO and BRPD is using that place as their new Headquarters. They bought the place years ago and I drove by the place earlier this month. Parking lot and garage looks practically empty and the front of the building just has a few squad cars.

I thought buying the new Woman's hospital and making into a new Police HQ was a great idea. But now? Not so much.

There was nothing wrong with EKL's facilities. Woman's was built in the same year as EKL and would have to be retrofitted to be a regular hospital.

EKL was defunded by Jindal, that is why it closed.
I've heard that more tax money is being spent on OLOL than would have been spent to leave EKL open, but I don't have the numbers. We all know that BRG mid city ER shut down as a result of EKL's closure as well.

This is not a EBR failure, it is a Jindal failure.

What's even more silly is they are keeping the entire structure climate controlled while only using a few floors.

I was told it runs $50k/month.

Your tax dollars hard at work...

Yes the $ is true. When OLOL/FMOL signed the agreement with the state around charity care it was amazing to see the dominos fall. My understanding is the state is trying to back out of the deal now. That should be interesting.

It's another case of NIMBY. The residents of Tara made sure that the old Women's Hospital wasn't used as the new charity and then pressured the city on limiting the use of the building by the police department.
