when I lived in Fl you would/could get arrested, LE, EMT, FF services are hampered by the power outage too so. another purpose of the curfew is to decrease their workload and conserve resources for potential serious need

The main purpose of a storm-related curfew is to protect rescue and emergency personnel, as morons who venture into dangerous conditions may call and ask to be rescued, thus endangering not only their life, but those of rescue and emergency personnel in the process.

If folks evacuate, curfews curb the late night looters.

Before I had any sense, 17 yo me and a group of buddies thought it would be cool to go sit on the causeway to watch the waves from Hurricane Andrew.

That’s why they have curfews.

You could be. You should have a valid reason to be out and about.

If you are lucky, the police would approach you first before the hoodrats

The problem is the whole "I'm on my own" thing.

A whole Lotta people say that, and then will promptly whine and scream when their precious F250 slides off into a ditch and nobody rushes to save them.

Curfews are a good thing in some places. It makes it far easier to nab people out for nefarious reasons.

Underrated comment and I wholeheartedly agree with the undertone here.

If they don’t do anything people come running here bitching why haven’t they done something yet!

Curfew just seems like standard, oh look we did something with our power.

You don’t want people driving the roads at night in the hurricane. You have limited resources, best to have as little people out as possible. But I also don’t know how much having a curfew actually deters people from being idiots and driving through a hurricane. I figure you’d do it whether there is a curfew or not.

Who the hell is gonna wander about in a hurricane?

There’s always someone.

A few years ago we went to our 2nd house on the Tx/La line when a hurricane was tracking to NELA. We came home to find someone had run over the brick mailbox. Neighbor a few doors down had left a card/note and later in speaking said he was driving to the store as the storm was passing over when he hit the bricks.
