What's an appropriate wedding gift amount?

My friend getting married isn't registered. I was debating giving cash or a gift card, and how much is usually appropriate?$50, $100, $3.50, etc?

Depends on whos wedding it is. Just an acquaintance, throw a hundo at them. If its one f your close friends, a few hundo.

I think for a newlywed you can narrow down places where they'll need it: Lowe's, Home Depot, Target, etc. I think cash is worse, though in the Northeast it's still the main gift, because everyone in the Northeast wants to be in the mob.
You can also just get them a gift in whatever price range you're comfortable with. If you're ballin' I'm sure they could use a Dyson V8 or a cordless drill.
(This is all assuming it's the first marriage, getting gifts for a second or 3rd is weird)

Giving gift cards or cash is thoughtless. Make a little effort. You can find out what sort of things they need with just a little effort.

This is regional, too. In the north, most people don’t give gifts for weddings (that’s for showers). They give cash.

Find out what kind of food and drinks will be at the reception. Then buy a gift equal to the value of food and liquor you consume.

It's a good friend from growing up. Though he moved 5,000 miles away at college, and I haven't seen him in a decade. Though I do still consider him a good friend.
