Right, but as long it is not zero it is enough to drop the average below 1

LINK with news story

The Roe River in Montana in considered the world's shortest river at 200 feet long. Some will argue the D River in coastal Oregon is shorter, but that is dependent on high tides.

0.99999... = 1

Sounds absurd but it's true

One proof is:

1/3 = 0.333...
1/3 * 3 = 1
0.333... * 3 = 0.999...

Only if you define the average by the mean. The median person has 2 legs.

If you were able to fold a
piece of paper 42 times, it would be thick enough to reach the moon.

If you folded it 103 times, the thickness of your paper will be larger than the observable Universe:

93 billion light-years

I looked into it and even though the math makes sense I can't picture this one at all lol

A dig at UGA in the OT... nice.

I remember the Sugar Bowl where UGA lost to Penn State... I think it was the year prior. My grandma (pics in the Smithsonian) had family in from Pennsylvania. I swear at least one of them was in WWI.

IF you shuffle a deck of cards, it is likely the first time in history that has ever been in that order.

If you conservatively assume that at least 1 trillion decks of cards have been shuffled around the world each year the past 200 years, that would be 200 trillion (2.0 E+14) shuffled decks.

The number of possible combinations in a shuffled deck of cards is 52!, or 8 E+67.

Not only is it likely that no two completely and randomly shuffled decks have ever been the same, the odds of 2 of them being the same is 8 E+67/2 E+14, or 4 E+53 to 1.

In other words, no chance in hell that two completely and randomly shuffled decks of cards have ever been the same.

There is a chance and you calculated it right before you said there was no chance :)

How does this one work?

The width of an average piece of paper is 0.1 mm. If you take that number and double it 103 times (2 to the 103rd power), that number would be 1 E+27 meters.

i.e., 1 E-4 meters X 1 E+31 (which is 2 to the 103rd) = 1 E+27 meters

Diameter of the observable universe is 8.8 E+26 meters

Your typical piece of paper is 0.005 inches thick. You fold it once and the total is 0.010 inches.

0.020
0.040
0.080
0.16
0.32
0.64
1.28
2.56
5.12
10.24
20.48
40.96

and that's just 13 folds and we're at 3 and a half feet thick.

The space ones always leave me astonished. Like the size of shite, or our solar system/sun compared to gigantic ones out there. It's pretty crazy to think about

I watched a film on this at the Houston planetarium. It’s damn near impossible to think on those kind of terms. Our galaxy is a pimple on a rats arse of space.
