i don't really have a problem with people who talk about their investments and their house and stuff like that, i just don't know why they think i care. It's like talking about your fantasy team.

Its common in your 20s/30s to draw reproach from unsuccessful friends and family if you are successful. I think it happens to everybody to some extent . People hate feeling they are being left behind.

but also, later on i say a lot of this is seen through my practice handling divorces. you kind of have to tell your spouse your plans

Side 1: BDM is jealous of said GDM. Those less fortunate have a bad tendency to "knock" those more fortunate. It's their way of attempting to bring them down to their level. It's the "king-servant" relationship. Same reason LSU fans are jealous of Bama. It's good to be the king.
Side 2: The conversation is usually above the intellect of the said BDM. The BDM feels inferior thus feels the need to degrade the GDM when they should be learning from the GDM.

I agree. I know a few people like this and they're fairly miserable to be around. I like to see people have success, I'm kind of a cheerleader for humanity but I take zero interest in their personal business. I don't know why they think anyone would.

yeah but there is a difference in being happy, down the road, that you made the right decision, and bragging
my best personal example is the group of people who did study abroad in law school and took out student loans to pay for it. at the time they said i was crazy for not going, and i had crunched the numbers and they did the "life is more than just numbers..you'll never get to go to europe again. blah blah blah" routine
10 years later i'm about to pay off my student loans and happy i'm not burdened with an extra 15k+ while the same friends who made fun of me for not being fun are drowning in student loan debt (some aren't even paying it). if i say "man i made the right decision. now i can afford to ball out in Europe" they'd lose their fricking minds at me

yeah i wasn't even talking about it much (especially not initiating talking about it) and i got a really harsh PM telling me to stop promoting it...when i wasn't and was, at the most, participating in other's conversations about it

the other side is, why do we have such a problem with the GDMs talking about the good decisions they've made to get to a high point?
Or are you specifically talking about interactions face to face?
I do know there is a huge difference between talking about specific mindsets/strategies as it pertains to business and offering empty platitudes like, "you just have to go out and never give up!" Often many people who have "made it" forget the enormous amounts of luck it also takes but almost universally ignore it as they feel it takes away from their success

sometimes you rum +EV and sometimes you run -EV
if you have the correct strategy, work to improve your skillset for the strategy, and make the correct decisions with that strategy, you will eventually succeed almost every time (sometimes you'll run -EV early and it will just take time)
this assumes you have the correct strategy. lots of times people are too egotistical and can't analyze situations properly and convince themselves they're just running -EV instead of having a terrible strategy
