re: What's a decent mile time for casual running?

Are you only running a mile? for instance if you're a casual runner and running 3 or 4 miles a 10 minute mile pace is fine especially if you don't want to get burned out. In my 20s I'd run 8 mph for 30-35 minutes without stopping. In my early 30s I just can't do that and run 4 days during the work week every week. I'll eventually just quit running

This is the most humble OT thread I think I've ever seen

in the range of ten minutes per mile as others have said

Jcorye1, been meaning to tell you what a really great post you had in the suicide note thread. Well done, Guy.

If you want to drop weight running you need to run 20-30 minutes
Longer runs at a slower pace are better than crushing out 1 mile and stopping

If you're running a mile and stopping, 8:00 and under (7:00 if you're under 25). Add 1-2 min/mile if you're running more than a mile. A 5k under 30 min is a good non-embarrassing run for a casual runner.

8:15-8:30 is a comfortable pace.

Just started back running this week. Did 2 miles Monday and didn't time myself. Two miles today and timed...will run two miles again Saturday and time myself. I may walk on other days but gonna get at least one day of rest between runs so i don't burn myself out and go eat a whole pizza (and Cinnamon sticks)

I think a long walk would be better than a 1 mile quick run. 1 mile is barely enough to get a sweat going

Yes. Doing too much too fast is almost guaranteed shin splints
Posted on 2/15/17 at 9:15 pm to DocHoliday11
Just stick at 6 mph and you'll increase your pace as you get back into the swing of things. You get older and those shins hurt and your legs feel heavier, all that shite. For 20 minutes a 7 mph pace for 20 minutes is a good run and you can do it every day without burning your shite out.

Barefoot shoes...you'll never get shin splints. Your feet are going to take some bruises while you get adjusted

It's obvious, but it's worth stating that it really depends on the person and on genetics. I've seen 30-something, 50 pound overweight Mexican guys bang out 7 minute miles for an hour on the treadmill. I almost never see my brothers of any age run 7 minute miles for any farther than a mile or so. I run 2 miles in 20 minutes and guys come by and praise me.

don't know haven't timed myself in awhile.
Posted on 2/15/17 at 9:25 pm to DocHoliday11
I think you're good as long as you are under 10 min/mi for any distance between 2-5 miles.
I'm no expert, but the only way I ever made any progress running faster mile times is by running longer (at a slower pace) or running sprints.

if you have a high tolerance for pain, you'll hurt yourself running. I was running on a shitty surface and would ran through splints until I got a fracture
