A huge flaw in that movie...just go on vacation out of the country that day/week.
All those rich people spending top dollar on a home protection system bc USA has a purge day. Sounds like a good time to visit Aruba...

In the year leading up to it I would install metal shutters with locks that can only be reached from the inside on my windows. Would also install rod-iron doors on the outside of my regular doors, all with locking mechanisms on the inside.
The rest of my house is brick and stone, with some stucco higher up and I have a metal roof. I would basically make my place impenetrable by anything other than heavy machinery, would also add some auxiliary cameras around the house to my already existing Ring.
I have 8 guns ranging from a small pistol made for CC, to .22 revolvers, to AR-15s and shotguns. My fiancee would keep the small CC pistol and the .22 revolver on her, I would keep the AR-15 and my 9mm SCCY on me, and the shotguns and rifles would be placed throughout the house.
We'd lock everything down, drink some coffee or Bangs, and stay up all night in the living room watching the purge happen on TV.
I'm in law enforcement and I know some bad mofos would love to take me out in a purge, I would certainly be considered a target. No way I could go out and take part, hunkering down in a small fortress would be my only option.

So basically just take the next day off and stay up all night in the bunker to monitor the situation.
Put yourself in a steel room that has insulation, fire proofing, sound proofing, its own air supply, water, power, and waste system. Probably looking at $40k to do it right but there would be cost-sharing amongst families if such a society actually existed.

To the OP we are basically living the purge RN. This virus is taking over and taking who it wants. Just be blessed and stay alive the next 2 months

If I was worried about somebody penetrating the safe room, I would install some defense systems.
1. Electrified barbed wire fence around the property.
2. Automated water canons outside the building. Spray the shite out of people coming up to the home.
3. Remote controlled guns. Obvious one there.
4. Tons of cameras inside and out of the house and a couple of drones.
5. Incredibly bright lights in the home. Possibly some lasers that have software that automatically points at eyes. That's more protective equipment that is needed by the intruder.
6. Install fire suppression systems in the home that can be filled with CO2 just before the purge. Dump this into the home and the intruders will have to have their own oxygen, or create a way for CO2 to exit the building fast enough. Two or three of the inner rooms spray Halon gas at them.
7. Sound canons/sonic device (LRAD) on all sides of the safe room. This will require the intruders to wear protective equipment for their ears and entire cranium, in addition to oxygen masks and eye protection, all while being wet. The safe room would need to be shielded from it as well in case intruders bring their own LRADs.
8. A bucket of slime with a string attached to the door so that it dumps on the intruder as he enters the safe room and we all have a good laugh.

I sure hope that you have about a year's worth of MREs too. You've thought a lot about how to defend your home but not much about what you are going to eat
