What would your strategy be in the Purge?

I’m sure this has been discussed here before but oh well. If there was a real life Purge, what would your strategy be in the year leading up to it and for that 24 hours?
I imagine unless someone is a psychopath or flat broke with nothing to lose, most would just hunker down and protect themselves and their family.
This part is more of a M/TV board question, but how exactly did the Purge create such a great society in the movie? They just assume everyone got their crime urges out in 24 hours and behaved for the other 364 days?
I only saw the first movie and it’s been a while.

If the goal is to create a great society then I have nothing to worry about.

Settle some scores, of course.

I'm not messing with the crazies, time to bounce out of the country for vacation.

I would be tempted to do this too tbh. But I’d probably run across a lot of people crazier than me. Wouldn’t be worth it

Threat: the fatties, they eat all the food and increase health insurance costs.

This would be the best move.. To join a gang. No one would survive trying to fight it out on their own.

My strategy... get 1/3 of the way through my list this year.

Rent a house in the middle of nowhere with a few other family members. Shoot anyone who approached. Get a different one every year.

meet with neighbors.
block off both ends of road.
setup patrols
shoot anyone you don’t know.
pretty simple. it’s only 8 hours.

Get rid of some poor people.
People would get some violence out of their system/save it for Purge Night.

There is really no win situation. The moment you fall asleep you are done.

It's only 24 hours so obviously the strategy is simple. Stay in a safe room until it's over. It's not like they can starve you out. Anything else as far as anti-theft measurements would be bonus and really depends on the insurance situation.
Most likely neighborhood or membership-based safe rooms/businesses would emerge. Just report to the lockdown site you belong to and have a slumber party basically.
It's really not hard to keep people out for 24 hours if you have advanced notice of the exact date.
