I'd ask for her reason, give mine, and decide who is more right. Perhaps come up with a compromise.
You know, adult shite like that.

I have a hard time believing my s/o would care what I bought with the bonus check that YOU earned
Posted on 1/27/16 at 12:35 pm to CatsGoneWild
Well what is it you want to buy?

Am the only one with a seperate bank account from the one I share with my wife? I don't understand this.

In my house, all income is "our" money. We talk about big purchases and agree on them before we make them. However, unless either of us wants something absolutely ridiculous, we don't usually say no. But if my wife wasn't comfortable with me making a big purchase, I wouldn't make it. Not until I convinced her why we really need it anyway

Welcome to life. Don't feel sorry for yourself and don't hold a grudge. You have a gun? Go shoot the frick out if something.

We don't really have a set amount, but run bigger non-essential purchases by each other. It's only fair, IMO.
I don't think we've ever told each other no, but we have similar and reasonable spending habits. If I went and asked to get a $500 pair of shoes, I'd probably get shut down, but that's not really something I'm looking to spend on that kind of purchase.

Why would you tell her in the first place of a bonus check?

I was going to buy a enclosed snowmobile trailer (since I live up north and have no way to transport my snowmobile). The other half of my check was going to be for our vacation in March. She says I don't need a trailer and it would be an eye sore

Gotta stick to the rules - try bargaining with her... with next year's bonus check or you pay for everything over 200$ with personal funds or something

Valid points.
Rebuttal?

My bonus comes the same day every year. She knows when I get ut

Tell her why you need a trailer and why it won't be an eye sore then go buy it. Tell her if she doesn't like it get a job making 90% of the money.(assuming you're a real man and make 90% of the money while her job is more a hobby where she feels important)

Does she not think you need to transport the snow mobile? What does she want to do with the money?
Pick a few options and let her choose the one that looks best so she has input on the decision. Then take her out to go ride the snow mobile once it comes in so she sees the value in being able to transport it.

Sounds like it was designated as disposable income anyway. Buy whatever the hell you want.
I can't imagine my wife doing that if all the expenses are covered. Not for an "eyesore".
