Go ahead, share your wonderful advice. I'm all ears, gramps. Please, half of you don't even have the first clue on today's world and remain stuck in your ways of how to live. It's honestly kind of pathetic seeing all of you "men" huddle up on a message board bashing today's youth because they're today's youth and we struggle to survive in today's economy (that you all fricked up btw) and don't like the same things you all do. So, please inform me of how you can better alter my life, I'm all ears.
No offense Junior but if this was 1977 you would have heard my parents and most parents having the same discussion as this thread.
So maybe a bit of common sense would be in order for what's between your ears.

WOAH! You have a job that you have to wake up early for?! NO WAY, man do I envy you and hope to be the man you someday are. I work 4 days a week with 3 day weekends, bro but please keep waking up at 5:30 in the morning to show us youth how it's done.

If this was 1977 you would be having this discussion while smoking cigarettes at the dinner table and driving in cars without seat belts. Just becuase someone said it a long time ago doesnt mean it's correct.

Well that is because the millennial generation is one of the most annoying/obnoxious generations. It's easy to pick on them.

Also charging your kid rent is a dick move.
I would imagine anyone doing that isn't charging much at all. Just enough to make them realize they can't just sit around and not contribute.
Also...you could always just stick that money aside and save it for your child. And when they do move out...surprise them with it.

Lived with my parents for six months after grad school. Had a job those months and made a nice down payment on my own home.
Had they not let me stay I'd probably still be renting. They severely helped me in life and I'm grateful.

They can live with me for a small fee and a lot of labor.
Cost of living is a lot for low paying entry level positions so theres some slack to be had. But a job is a job.. go work retail idgaf. But a line must be drawn.
Slack doesnt mean you live with me rent and job free.
For the record i lived at home with my mom until 23.. but i also paid all the bills for her with my hot arse surveying job i worked while going to school.
Agree. Better for them to pay rent to you than someone else.

I moved back in briefly after I had to quit my first job for health reasons. I was back for about a year and a half. While there, I had a crappy part time job and a awesome/good paying part time job so I did contribute. I have to say, i didn't enjoy my time being home, but my parents never rushed me. I was able to find a job that fit for me and I'd have never gotten that if I had been rushed.

Or better let them save money for a house or pay down student loans faster.

i wouldn't give a timeframe, but insist that 8 hours/day would be spent looking for a decent job. If in south LA, you can make decent money working construction in the meantime, which could afford you a cheap apartment.

Gramps?! LMAO, hardly. Female LSU grad, 2004. Bought my first house alone at 23. After having a job since I was 13. Parents ditched me monetarily in my FR year of college because I didn't play by their rules and didn't lie about my non-conforming behavior. I now make six figures and bought a $420K house. So, take your gramps comments, and actually get with reality. When you whine about hardworking people, you sound like a total loser.

So this discussion is incorrect? Should the OP take "millennial" out of the title?
What generation of kids are graduating in 2017? It ain't fricking baby boomers chief.

Your post was saying the same thinking in 1977 applies now and is common sense.

So, you read my comment where I asked for advice and turned that into "Let me brag about myself so this complete stranger knows I'm awesome". I'm pretty sure I'm with reality but if you'd like to try again, I'm all ears. Or, you know, maybe you can just brag about the kind of car you drive next.

Not at all, I worked hard and see kids like my sweet, dumb and lazy 20 year old sister and hate how little she has in her future. Won't even get her license.
So, no GreatLakes, this isn't a pissing or bragging contest, I see how this mentality is affecting a younger generation.
