It took an hour and a half commute in Houston for me to move back
Houston sucks, that is not a fair comparison to use for leaving the state and then wanting to come back. Most people I know move to Houston for a job/company stepping stone, then move along or move back.

If anyone in Austin is looking to move back, we can do a trade.

Covington is definitely cream of the crop. We stayed at that southern hotel and now my wife is constantly searching realtor.com for houses. Most charming place ever she says.
West St. Tammany, in general, is cream of the crop. I feel so lucky to live in the best 'burbs in the state with quick access to the largest city. I could never live anywhere else in Louisiana. The Mandeville/Covington area is basically an anomaly.

Lets say one could work in Covington, Gonzales, or Denham. Pretty much the cream of the crop of places to live in Louisiana. What would it take?
Currently I can drive to Phoenix in 5 hours, be at a ski resort in 2, Denver in 8, San Diego in 9. Pretty much any cool place in the West, is a driveable weekend trip away.
The idea of moving back seems fun. But I know once football season is over, the hot muggy arse season from April to October will suck
We don't want you back. Keep your bitch arse skinny body, and your bitch arse posts in Phoenix. Go hiking with Nursie.

The northshore would be up there but I don't know anyone other than OP that would put Gonzales or Denham in the top places to live in the state.
They aren't even the nicest places in their respective parishes.

False, although I moved to Houston and did move back to LA for a good job but I moved back to Houston for a better job.
Honestly, when most people leave LA after they graduate college for Houston (or Dallas) for work in a state that actually has jobs, they end up staying permanently. It is because they have kids and if the kids are smart they will put down roots for the same reason and plus to be close to their parents. Sure, there are unicorns like me, but most people that leave LA for Houston, stay.

Even when reading the title of the thread, none of these places were what I had in mind. That’s not the best places to live compared to almost any state.

Having kids. That's what it took for me.
Both me and my wife were raised very close to our family. When we had kids, and they got to the age where family means something, we knew it was time to go back home.
The fact that my kids have grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc, at every grandparents day, every ballgame, every dance revue, every choir performance, most cheer performances, etc, is something that was very important for us.
We've found ourselves with good jobs and a good school district, a safe place to live, etc. And yet, absolutely there are days where despite all that and despite having family around, we see so much stupidity and ignorance here, we wonder if we made the right decision.
I think we did, because we can do things to stay away fom the stupidity and ignorance, yet, we can't replace those moments with family.

1) A new state constitution that fixes all of the right stuff
2) A more innovative and balanced state economy that could support a wide array of jobs and opportunities
3) A significant reduction in Louisiana's NIMBY population. I love Louisiana, but many of the choices the state is forced into is because of a very difficult to work with population. No one sees the forest through the trees. Everyone is only focused on their end goals. It doesn't matter if a decision is a better net good. If one set of people see it negatively, then it never gets done. All of the I-10 decisions are directly relevant to this conversation. And until Louisiana figures out a better balance, it will never improve.

Just moved to Pueblo CO from Opieceolooseass. No humidity in Pueblo and close drive to the mountains. I good here but here’s a list
Low humidity
Cheaper vehicle insurance
Politicians that don’t steal everything
Legal weed for the devil lettuce baws
Conclusion: never as this will never happen
