I doubt I'll ever leave Louisiana. It is my home.
Could it be improved? Sure. There's really nothing wrong with the state, itself. It's always certain people who manage to f**k things up.
Crooked politicians and crooked individuals. Get rid of vermin like these and it would be the greatest state in the union.

Cooler weather in summer
Less crime
Better infrastructure
Less corruption in politics
Amended state constitution
So yeah, not happening...

Yeah Covington, Mandeville and Madisonville is definitely the holy trinity for Louisiana, but I guess I'm a bit biased
That's probably the only area in La. I'd move back to. I haven't lived there since I graduated LSU in '81. I live in Colorado now and love it. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss Louisiana. The thing is of all the places I've lived, none of them really feel like home. I feel it more and more every time I visit. Yes, politics is corrupt, the weather is shitty all summer, etc., etc. There are a million reasons to live somewhere else. But dammit it's home and I do miss it.

No doubt. Hell, I am more than half way back to Louisiana after nine hours on the road.

Global positioning shift that effects the weather.
Specific mass exodus of a certain population, leaving some the good ones behind.
Recreational cannabis, and laws relaxed in almost every genre.
Better venues and a thriving metal scene again.

Born and raised in Louisiana, if you move away, no where also will really be "home" like Louisiana was. You just can't replicate the culture, community and people anywhere else in the US.
That's exactly it. Well said.
Also the oysters are a little weird out here.

How is that really surprising?
The #1 reason we moved away was for better schools, so I wouldn't likely consider moving back until after he's graduated. At that point I'll be pretty entrenched here and might consider spending Fall/Winter in LA after we retire. Basically a snowbird except not to Florida.

Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Laffy are chock full of metal bands almost to the exclusion of all other original rock music:

We are all calling bullshite on your estimated drive times, especially PHX to DEN in 8 hours.
But he would only have to average about 105mph with no stops.

Not a big metal guy myself, but if you can’t enjoy shows with bands like Downcast, Ole English, Capra, Raise the Death Toll, Ventruss, Brutiful, etc, then you don’t have a pulse.
I’m a musician in the music (not metal) scene, so I know it well. A lot of my friends are in metal bands. Lafayette is still struggling for venues, but BR is still going strong with ample shows at Mid City Ballroom, the varsity, Southside Arts Studio, and Phil Brady’s. Certainly no shortage of metal shows down around New Orleans.
