I live in a very small town in WNC that will experience 100% total eclipse. They described the coming influx of people as eclipse refugees and urged us all to purchase food, gas, and essentials. Turns out it's just another Sunday.

I was thinking of that general area as well.

Certainly don't want to be anywhere near Nashville.

I think within Cookeville especially in the TTU area will be a no go, but the surrounding areas might be fine

I've already booked lodging in the path of totality for the NEXT eclipse in 2024.

I'm curious. What place let you book almost 7 years in advance?

Let me guess, you're coming from Birmingham too? Do you think going straight to Nashville (I-65) is better or going to Gadsden and Chattanooga (I-59) and then northwest through Murfreesboro is better?

I'm not going anywhere. But, if I were to guess tonight what is the best route to take would be to go to Murfreesboro from I- 65.

Nashville will be too crowded, plus the longest totality, is on the north side of Nashville. Same with Chattanooga. Chattanooga traffic on I-24 is always bad, so I am thinking it will be atrocious considering the possibility of a number of Atlantans going up to Chattanooga?

I'm a cop in a city in SC that is in 100% totality. Worked this entire weekend and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Didn't see that many out of state tags.

News is freaking out, tho. Entire department is on standby tomorrow if you're not working.

100% 24 is windy and gets F-ed even during normal times.

65 will be bad but not like 24.

I'm saying home from work and posting up in Germantown in a park across the street from my house. Will not be using a vehicle tomorrow. Should be tits.

Tomorrow night may be much worse when everyone's heading out of town at the same time.

This. People will be arriving at eclipse locations for hours. After it is over everyone will be getting in their cars at the same time. Were headed from south Kansas City to just north of Kansas City (avoiding the St. Joseph madness) but I fully expect the roads to be a mess coming back. Depending on weather, the forecast is not great.

Just got a text tonight from a friend north of Atlanta. Traffic bumper to bumper from there to Asheville with people trying to get there.

Driving from SW Missouri to central Missouri on minor highways and county roads. Doing my best to avoid any major highways or interstates. Hoping idiots follow Google maps.

It was absolutely insane on Highway 85 in Wyoming then I-25 earlier today. I saw at least 10 cops driving through Wyoming for 3 hours. It took 30 minutes to get in and out of a gas station in Lusk, WY. A little bummed I was heading back home in the opposite direction but man oh man is that trek home tomorrow going to be tough sledding.
