I've already booked lodging in the path of totality for the NEXT eclipse in 2024.

Goes right over Austin. Think I'll stay put.

In Goodlettsville, TN just north of Nashville. Just spoke with police officers in city park and they said population is 16,000 and right now they have more than quadruple that and expecting 150,000 visitors here. There's license plates from all over and all hotels are booked but the highways weren't as congested as I thought they'd be getting up here but people showed up throughout the weekend. Tomorrow night may be much worse when everyone's heading out of town at the same time.

This is what I am worried about. Getting to wherever you go shouldn't be too much of an issue if you leave early. It's getting out that will be a problem

I picked Cookeville. Not necessarily going there, but the general area. Forecast looks best the more east in Tennessee you go, and I figure Cookeville is no-name enough to where I can not have to deal with as bad of hurricane evacuation style traffic getting out. I plan on taking the backroads on the way back.

Honestly I would like to avoid any kind of population center at all. If I can find a place in the middle of nowhere to just park on the side of the road and chill there without being bothered, I will. Population centers will be a bitch to get out of

I've already heard of extra traffic over the weekend in the small towns in Oregon.

A town of 6K in Oregon I was going to go to was expecting over a 100K.

News had aerial photos of some random no name place in Oregon and it looked like a parking lot for an LSU game

I live in KC, and north of town in the St. Joseph area they are saying there could be upwards of 1 million people in that small town. Traffic will be horrible.

I'll probably be going to one of the local breweries and hanging out, that way if it is to cloudy to see, at least I'll have beer.

Pretty good choice. I'm like 5 miles from Vandy..
Apparently the nearest walmarts parking lot has turned into a camp ground

If anyone is coming into Nashville.. pro tip.. avoid the fricking loop. Just don't even bother with the interstate.

I am bringing a lot of shite with me tomorrow like extra food and water, and making sure I am 100% full on gas, fully expecting it to take upward of 8 hours to get back to Louisville.

When I lived in Seattle everyone would go east to the lakes in the summer weekends, and if you went back to Seattle on Sunday Afternoon it would take you hours to get back. I left Lake Chelan at 3pm and didn't get back until 10:30 one time. Just look at Google Maps traffic right now in Snoqualmie Pass in Washington. But eclipse traffic will be that only worse.

People I work with are leaving early tomorrow trying to go to some of the state parks in Tennessee outside Nashville, good fricking luck

As far as me I just want to find one place in the path of totality I can just park my fricking car at and not be bothered. Tennessee Tech University is having their football stadium open but I bet that lot is already full as I type this. Plus getting out would be a pain

I'm actually back on the mainland helping family out and am planning to commute to Clayton, GA tomorrow morning. Traffic is going to be hell but I am going to do my damnedest to make it there for totality.

Nashville wasn't too bad today, drove over to 8th yesterday and picked up glasses right after the Titans game and it was suprisingly not awful.

Kids are off tomorrow & there were probably a ton of new arrivals today, though, so we'll see.

What is your plan? Do you have any place you plan on going there or are you just going to try and find a place to park your car

That is what worries me. Finding a damn place to just park my car and be left alone until its over.

I have no plan. I'm just going to go up there and see what happens. I'm sure I'll find parking somewhere.

The Memphis Redbirds and NO Baby Cakes have an afternoon game here tomorrow.

1st pitch is at 11:52. The exact time the eclipse starts. I'm taking a customer out. He is a legit customer but he's also a friend. The whole day is just an excuse to take a 1/2 day off.

Where we are, we get a 93% eclipse. Is it worth it for me to drive about 2 hours to be in the path of totality?

Yes

93% is cool and all but its not the same as totality at all

Set off from Mobile at 9:30 this morning. Arrived in Spring City TN at 6pm (eastern). Traffic was fine.

I'm sure traffic around larger pop centres will be a pain. I picked this place for the good weather forecast.

No hotel rooms but that's the price for deciding on location based on weather.
No worries, the truck is a decent sleeper.

Hopefully the drive back south will be equally smooth sailing.

I was thinking of that general area as well.

Certainly don't want to be anywhere near Nashville.
