Wife’s mom and dad are the absolute only things holding us here. We are both only children. My parents are both deceased. Hers are in their upper 70’s - 80’s. We spend a great deal of time with them and my wife wouldn’t move for the world, nor would I ask her to. Not being morbid, but once something happens, the opportunities are endless and I’m sure we will bail.

And, we’re not in BR, we’re in the LP. There’s nothing technically wrong with where we are, but I can think of other areas I would much rather be. It may not be BR, but Louisiana has issues as a whole.

are you worried about potential decline in value?

No I’m not worried about them losing value, based on location, occupancy type and history etc. They have steadily appreciated over the years I have owned them and occupancy rate is high. I am actively acquiring additional properties and doing deals in town, despite what most on this board think about Baton Rouge, it is actually a pretty strong real estate market providing great roi

I barely stayed in Baton Rouge most of my time at LSU. Stayed 2-3 nights/week most semesters.

I got a better job and moved a week later.

Baton Rouge is fun in college and through your late 20's even, but I would never raise a family there.

Just can't get enough of these daily Louisiana sucks threads by people who left Louisiana but seem oddly obsessed by it nonetheless.

I like it here. Things about living here suck but it's my home and where most of the people I care about live so I choose to find ways to be happy here. So I'll stick around and I guess be responsible for turning the lights off when everyone else leaves...

We moved last year.

Reason: BLM protests, the cop killing and SWB.

I won't raise my 3 year old daughter around such hate filled divisionism.

BR has plenty of issues, but there is still plenty of things to do. Being miserable in BR is a choice, imo.

Absolutely.

I live here because my friends and family are all here, LSU sports is here, and my wife and I both have jobs we like here. Why would I leave? We could both easily get higher paying jobs elsewhere (Houston, Atlanta, etc.) but we choose to stay here. Everything we love is a 10 min drive away.

The city of Baton Rouge statistically isnt great, but the reality is the city is so segregated that south of Florida st or Govt st really isnt a bad place to live. It also helps that if we are really looking to do something we can't do in BR, i can just make an hour drive to NOLA to visit one of the most entertaining cities in the world.

Traffic sucks, local government sucks, but after that it's not so bad and definitely constantly getting better.
