DR Horton and DSLD are actively working on replacing all of the cane fields with subdivisions here so it won't be a problem much longer.

Many illegals are brought here and housed without CDL's i might add during the harvest to drive semi trucks to haul sugarcane across the South as we know from Sept - Jan.
They're called work visas, most of us in the industry have no problem with that AS LONG AS THEY CAN READ AND COMPREHEND THE ROAD SIGNS. The problem is all of the indians and eastern europeans being brought over and put behind the wheel of a semi not knowing a lick of English and then causing major accidents because they could not read warning signs or the overhead emergency signage.

Read #5, #6, and #10 and you'll see why the Feds are cracking down - those three items have almost identical frequencies and are a severe problem:

H2A workers or people with work permits like they have been doing for a long time. Would venture to say most mills have little to no workers that don't have employment authorization.

Agriculture green cards are the easiest green cards to obtain. There is absolutely zero excuse to be using illegals for agriculture purposes.

I am for deportation of illegals

But I think if there was a genie that could snap his fingers and “POOF”, they are all gone, we would be fricked for a decent amount of time for agriculture, construction, etc

Modern Americans aren’t going to fill their jobs with any quickness

It would eventually get figured out but there would absolutely be a struggle with a transition period

What's funny baw?

Why risk the fines and headaches of hiring people without documents when you can hire a recruiting agent in Mexico to get you skilled workers for grinding and handle all of the paperwork.

People seem to not understand that majority of farm workers around south La are legal workers on work visas

Nothing else matters after this statement.

That logic is applicable to residential contractors or landscapers, that logic doesn't apply when you are talking about major companies and operations. The $15000-20000 to get H2A workers here is a lot better than the fines would be getting popped with 50 illegal employees.

Wouldn't be a bad side gig.

Sugar cane truck drivers in Louisiana typically earn an hourly wage ranging from $18 to $35, with the average being around $26.19 per hour. However, some drivers can earn significantly more, with top earners making upwards of $69 per hour, while others might start at a lower rate, such as $16.35 per hour. Factors like experience, specific employer, and the type of hauling can influence the exact pay rate.

I know a bunch of sugarcane and crawfish farmers and I can't think of one employee that is Mexican. You are making up a problem that applies to other states, not LA.

The only response needed in this thread.

Ask yourself why cane trucks dont have to tarp their load like every other open top commercial truck (among other special treatment items).
