In high school, we sometimes went to the bar at Alligator Bayou, the one with the warped floor but seemingly-straight pool tables.

I turned 18 during the late '80s so I was part of that weird loophole which made it semi-legal to drink at that age. From what I remember, it was still legal for bars to sell alcohol to someone 18, but it was illegal for me at age 18 to buy it. So bars didn't care if they let you in and you bought it from them since they wouldn't be penalized if you got caught.

Yeah, I was born in '86 and clearly remember when it actually took affect in the early/mid 90's.

Yeah this helped us. I was 16 in 96 when we really started hitting it hard. We normally didn’t have a problem at the daiquiri shops regardless but on occasion they would ask fo ID and if yours said 1979, which some friends did, they would sell. Doesn’t really make sense but whatever.

Hey, don't make me older than I already am. Pushing 66 this November.

And as far as this site, it is heavy La. based and I've been an almost lifelong resident with the exception of living in Jackson, MS for 3 years from 70-73, so I can relate to most of what is posted.

Well, except for the "Baw" shite and truck nuts.

I am just giving you a hard time. My father will be 68 in November and I just can't imagine him posting here.

Same here, back then you could bring your 18 year old friends birth certificate to the dmv and get a real fake ID. lol there'd be 3 of us with the same name in line getting carded at the bar.

The Cub! Didn’t go in, but Jake would bring drinks to your car. Sort of like a Sonic that served tequila sunrises.
My how times have changed.

I was in college in the mid 90's when this all happened. The bars in Hammond seemed to be shielded(probably due to political connections) so we got to drink as under 21 folks pretty much the whole time I was there while the court case was being figured out and even after.

Friar Tucks. RIP. Some of my best bar memories were there. Even worked there for the last week they were open. When I think college, I think Tucks. Good times.
