A friend of mine was getting married in London. On Christmas Day. The trip nor accommodations were covered. Needless to say, I had to politely say no.

This has to be the leader in the club house for "thread winner".
Who in their right mind would think getting married on Christmas in another country is remotely a good idea for anyone besides themselves?

I was in England this Easter and there was a destination wedding with folks from the US, Australia, Canada, and all over Europe at this little crack shack of a Church (Bibury in the Cotswolds) on Easter Sunday.

I don't think it's any coincidence that they divorced about 5 years later. I felt legitimately bad for him because he didn't want the wedding overseas (her "ancestors" was from there and that was her excuse) and he certainly didn't want it on Christmas Day. But he was pretty blinded by her bullshite. He got damn lucky he had a good divorce lawyer or she would've taken him for all he had.

If you're in BR, at least have the common decency to NOT schedule your wedding on a game day. Our wedding was planned on a bye week, because that's what friends do.

eventually it turned out to be my own

Poor dude for wasting some of the best years of his life on in that psycho. She must have looked really good naked.

It's ok to have it the weekend of the LA Tech game.

A wedding in Key West that was called off 2 weeks before. It was obviously too late to refund anything so we just made a vacation out of it.
I don't have a problem with destination weddings. Either you make a vacation out of it or you don't go. The bride and groom can't be mad if you aren't able to attend

Playa Del Carmen....inconvenient? Yes. Fun? Hell yeah! Decided to stay in Cozumel and dive for three days before the wedding on a Saturday. Stayed in Playa on Saturday and back over to Cozumel on Sunday. Left on Monday.
If you have a destination wedding to attend, make it a personal vacation, too. Then you can make the trip about you which will increase your enjoyment.

Coincidentally my wife's friend has a wedding tomorrow night (Sunday) at 5pm 2 hours away in a small town in Ohio. Can't say it is the most inconvenient wedding ever, but who the frick has a wedding at 5pm on a Sunday not in a major city.
I got a pass from the wife because we have a 2 year old who goes to bed at 7:30 and I refused to take vacation.

The one where I married my first wife. I really didn't want to be there but she was pregnant with our kid.

I've heard of a reception in Hawai'i for a LDS Temple Wedding (where only Mormons in "good standing" with the Church can actually go into the temple and witness the ceremony. So some folks travel for the wedding but can't actually see the wedding.
Holy shite, good standing?

LDS is such a cult.

Wedding in Poplarville MS (we were all from NOLA) for a good friend with 14 groomsmen/bridesmaid; they had known each other for about 6 months before getting engaged. County and the wedding were dry - not even a cash bar. All his friends hated her and her family. Bride tried to get everybody to do the wobble for our "wedding party dance."
Damn, I hate this bitch and I don't even know her.

or a couple thought it would be cool to be married in Key West.
That would be an awesome wedding. We went to Mexico for a wedding and had a blast.
My wife's old college friend got married up in the boonies outside of Monroe. Hated the drive up there. They all watched football the night night before in a hotel conference room kind of place and thought that counted as a rehearsal party or something.
Wedding was quick thank goodness, but then had one of those typical small town baptist receptions with bad food and no alcohol.

The furthest distance was to Buzios, Brazil. About 20 of us made a week vacation out of it.
Most inconvenient have been small towns in southern Georgia and the panhandle of Florida with no major airports within 2 hours drive. Skipped those.
