THIS... first thing that came to my mind was our HS parking lot was the same.

Other than people having a few fights my HS was safe and a great experience.

Not really, in my day soccer wasn't a thing. Good old days indeed.

Other than a notable off campus student tragedy, the 4 years of my high school were mostly unremarkable. I mean, a ton of unforgettably funny and embarrassing shite happened, but no on-campus shootings, riots or teachers screwing students ever happened.

Oh wait...we were in 9th grade and there were two dudes (almost certainly from varsity football team) spotted fart knocking from behind an unlit section of the weight room during lunch time. The 3 dudes that seen it were laughing so hard we couldn't understand what they were trying to tell us in the hall. The bandits were never positively identied, but I'm pretty certain I know who one of them was. Afterward, rumors started circulating that several particular players weren't exactly straight. Everyone became so defensive. shite was funny as hell.

Similar fate at my high school but instead of fire, a pipe had frozen over and burst over Christmas break. The gym floor was destroyed as it wasn't discovered till staff came back before students. The rest of the basketball season was played at the middle school gym.

I think it was about 6th or 7th grade a kid in my class one day didn’t come to school. Nobody thought anything of it until the next day when we found out that he wasn’t sick or anything, instead he’d skipped school that day with his cousin. They found his dad’s .357 and were either throwing it back and forth to each other or playing Russian Roulette (both versions of the story were circulated). Whatever they were doing ended with him dying from a gunshot in the head.

Several days of race riots and violence that required a permanent police presence to stop.

During my senior year, a good friend and I went to “The Village Party Store” in Jackson for beer, and as we sat in the parking lot counting $1s and change, a truck pulled up next to us with a couple of good looking women on either side of the cab, and our HS baseball coach in between them with an arm around each.

That coach was married to one of the girls’ coaches from school. We knew it, and he knew we knew it.

He was a notorious PITA, but for the rest of our senior year we had no problems with him.

Scool on campus was mostly unremarkable. Off campus a freshman cheerleader died in a gruesome way in a car wreck. Flew out of the car and hit a tree stump face first. Boyfriend who was driving ended up on drugs pretty bad.

Another wreck killed 5 underclass men. I think 3 of them were on the golf team. High speed wreck in to a large oak tree.

Very soon after graduation another accident killed an 11 th grade football teammate, and gave another severe head injuries.

After graduation a classmate killed himself. His dad was the biology teacher and everyone loathed him. (The dad not the son).

I would have to say one of the first two was the “incident “. Kind of a tie.

One year my chemistry teacher started acting noticeably weird and detached in class. We knew that he had gotten an unfortunate cancer diagnosis earlier in the year, but what we didn’t know was that he had taken a former student as a mentor and with him began a huge meth ring that ended up taking over cartel territory in the American southwest

I had already been out of school for a while when this happened but it was the biggest story around here for quite some time.

LINK

I was still overseas when it happened but as I remember the story was these kids were small town wannabe gangsters and got lured down to B’ham to be initiated into the gang. But instead of joining the Gangster Deciplies, ended up being murdered.

Had a classmate write “columbine tomorrow” and the date on a bathroom stall near the main office. He was sitting near me when he came up with the plan and it was all to get school cancelled to avoid studying for a test.

Someone saw it, reported it and school was on immediate lockdown. With dogs searching lockers. School was never cancelled the next day and the kid didn’t show up anyway. Later was expelled.

Mine did too. Sean Sellers. Plus a convenience store clerk.

The librarians son was a year behind me. Librarians son got busted selling weed to an undercover cop. A few days before his court date, The undercover cop died in a motorcycle accident, and the librarians son walked. A few days after that, a local grocery store chain announced the winner of this big raffle promotion they had: a brand new 1986 trans am. The winner was the librarians son. Side note: a dude one grade ahead of me was borking the librarian. When that news got out the librarian was fired.

One of the first school shootings was at my HS when I was in the 11th grade. Luke Woodham killed his girlfriend and her best friend at school and shot others, but he killed his mom before he went to school that day.

You might have been at Pearl when they still had double wide trailers as classrooms.

I was at Brandon, but about 10 years earlier.
