Grew up in LaPlace. Wasn't bad growing up. Now that I'm older, I prefer living in a bigger city like Baton Rouge.
I have zero interest in ever going back though, unless it's to visit my mother.
But that Connies fried chicken tho

I grew up in a small town in Louisiana and it was great. That was the 80's though. Most small towns are terrible now, including the one I grew up in.

Small towns used to be pretty damn cool. Still are in some places.

My dad was the town barber, I couldn't get away with shite.
Ran from the cops on my XR 75 once and got away, cop went straight to the barbershop

Growing up in a town of 1800 in east Texas was pretty fun. Everyone knew each other. And like you said plenty of bonfires, lots of beer drinking at designated party spots on oil field roads in the woods. And lots of secks with country girls.

Born and reared in Bogalusa - I turned out okay.

Both of those are larger than the town where I grew up.

Living in a small town is cool, but sucks because your folks know everybody...

I lived in Everglades City for a little growing up, it was interesting to say the least.

I wouldn't consider that place a "small town"

I grew up in a town of 1800.
1. Everyone knows everyone.
2. The boredom of not having things to do is cured by gossip.
3. We had a girl in our class with a lake house a half hour away. That really helped. Made some great memories out there.
4. Most of my teachers throughout K-12 went to the same school and came back. I was rarely introduced to a worldview outside that small town, as my mom and dad both grew up there. I have two brothers - they both still live there.
5. Two teachers that are married make enough money to be considered rich.
6. I have one brother who has a unique setup that has allowed him to make a six figure income. His wife is a teacher. They are considered ultra rich.
7. My underachieving brother jumps from job to job. He's finally making decent decisions in life 10 years too late.

I grew up in a town of less than 5,000 people. Graduating class was just over 200. It was actually pretty cool. I knew pretty much everyone in town. I still stay in close contact with a ton of people from there (much easier with FB). We have an Alumni Tailgate every year where people come back for a home football game (followed by a UT game the following day).
Every day after school, a bunch of kids would walk (about a block) to the local community center to play basketball, or would play touch football on the field nearby.
My kids are growing up in a metro/suburban area, and there is virtually nothing within walking distance from their schools. I loved growing up in a small town.

growing up in a small town is cool as long as you have acreage and toys.

That's pretty big.
We had 72 and some of the even smaller towns around us were much smaller.
There was one school, now closed, that had 100 in its entire student body.

I have no idea what small town life might be like. I grew up in West Monroe.

It was great, but I didn't realize it at the time. Drinking beer around a campfire, riding the back roads, not having to worry about cops pulling you over because you were probably related to them. The pretty girls were easy to come by (but you better check that family tree first), deer to shoot, alligators, frogs, and fish to catch, and a sky full of stars. I moved away from the small town of Sicily Island for college. I always said it wasn't big enough for me. I went on and got an education and realized that the city wasn't for me. I currently reside in Sicily Island and work right the road from where I was raised.

We had 65 and it was a rather large class. My niece graduated last year and they had 48.
I guess we were odd because it was a big deal even when we were little that our town had enough kids to field two Dixie Youth baseball teams. It was such a new concept that they did not realize they needed to stack one team and let the other be a whipping team for neighboring towns. We had two average teams.

Everyone knows everyone everywhere you go, which can be good or bad depending if you're a shithead or not. Always thought I'd like to move back as I enjoyed growing up there, but after moving away, not sure I could move back to the exact same town. Maybe a similar town elsewhere.
