Making my redneck pilgrimage to the Indy 500. Leaving early so we can go to Chicago as well since we have a long weekend. Going to be touristing real hard.

More mountaineering than climbing but I need to hone my rock climbing skills to be a better mountaineer.

Eta...have a bunch of trip reports on the OB.

The area surrounding Gatlinburg > than the area surrounding Branson.

I dig a lot of things about Gatlinburg. While it's certainly easy to make it a "Walmart" style vacation (there's definitely a lot of cheezy bad kitcsh there, but also some that I can appreciate), it's also easy to make it much more if you want. I tend to stay on the NC side of the Smokies, though, I just think Gatlinburg is often wrongfully maligned.

Branson seems pretty bad. I went there once as a kid before it blew up and also went up to NW Ark a few years ago (but not to Branson proper), so that's my limited first hand perspective of it.

Went once as a kid as well... mid to late 90s. I'm sure it's far worse now.

Live in TN for 9 years and lived 1 hour from Branson for 10 years, go to Gatlinburg and it's not close.

Oh man, no idea.

Lots of work trips that can be made into mini vacations.. Los Angeles, Austin for Austin City Limits.. possibly Scottsdale, NYC..

I haven't planned any strictly for-fun trips. Those are usually done randomly when I see good flight prices and know my schedule in advance.
