Almost every action has some form of personal gain, i.e. selfish. Sacrificing your life for someone is a truly selfless act if you are an atheist and don't believe it'll help get you into heaven.

Unless you sacrifice your life for a blood relative. Then you are helping ensure the survival of some of your own genetic code.

So, let's recap. In order to have a truly selfless act, you have to sacrifice your life for someone you have never met and aren't related to, while being a devout atheist.
