Jennings should be bigger, but drugs, corrupt cops, and some infamous murders paint this interstate riviera in a bad light. I knew Jennings would never come back after they bulldozed the 5 star dining experience of Shoney’s last year.

New Orleans is in a swamp. Not comparable to houston. It's limited by two bodies of water.

Been hearing about that airport for 40 years.

Bingo! Winner winner.

There’s millions in Houston alone that left Louisiana.

100% Agree. And Chief Rogers is set to retire. The next city police chief will have big boots to fill.

If Baton Rouge hadn't grown to be the shithole that it is, Denham Springs would be the Paris of the western hemisphere.

Natchez was a big deal pre-civil war. In 1840 it had more millionaires than any city in America, Not per capita -- more millionaires, period.

I found this out on a tour awhile back. The good ol days.. Cotton was king.

Other reasons too.
- I-10 on the East bank of the Mississippi River diverted traffic away
- Nicholls State University was originally planned to be there because it was Francis T. Nicholls' hometown, but none of the large farming families wanted to donate the land, and the Peltier's in Thibodaux stepped up.
- Section 8 housing projects in the late 1960s started the downward trend.

Shreveport

I have to go to downtown Shreveport maybe once a year. Always blows my mind that that place looks like a ghost town.

True. Over the last 30 years the southern university towns have been growing like crazy. I don’t think Ruston is ever going to take off like Oxford, Auburn or Clemson, but some growth feels inevitable with the recent announcements of new businesses coming here. Keep the east end in check and the growth will follow.
