Stihl fs 110r it has more torque and power than anything anybody else will suggest
I owned my own grass cutting business for a while and went through multiple trimmers; until I arrived at this option, take it to the bank.
.... note that Echo is good but stihl is the best
Second note if you're looking for something to edge concrete lines with this device does take a little bit of skill as you have to hold it upside down. I would use this for edging normally and buy a small electric edger or gas edger depending upon how much concrete lines you have.

Yep. Combination of tools is what works for me.
Once I got into my adult life pretty well, I got tired of using the string trimmer for everything. Cocking it up on it’s side to edge the sidewalk and driveway would put stress on my shoulder and back. Plus, running against the edge of concrete wears the string faster, so I was having to mess with the string feeder and replacing string way too often.
Now, I use an edger on the sidewalk and driveway and I do it more frequently. I generally cut and edge weekly during the summer. Doing it weekly keeps it under control and it goes very quickly.
I used to do it every 2 weeks, because I just don’t value having a manicured lawn over my other time commitments and hobbies, but I eventually learned that doing it weekly made it so much easier to handle that I wasn’t really saving that much time overall, and the effort was much greater when I waited 2 weeks between cuts and edging.

Echo 50:1 gas string trimmer. Straight shaft.

A weedeater will work fine. Obviously an edger attachment would help. The only donwnside is it can be a little harder to control than an edger, sometimes leading to big gaps when you make a mistake.
Used a gas edger forever growing up. Worked fine, but they are expensive.
My yard isn't huge now, so I use this:
Easy to use and gives a straight cut. Also pretty good at trenching as well. The downside though is that it's electric and extension cords are always a pain in the arse.

A solid option if you don't wanna drop $350+ on a stihl

Edging takes 10 minutes for me with this.

Straight shaft.
Is that going to be ok?

For years I used a weed eater.
I recently got an edger. Holy moly why did I wait so long!
All Ryobi for the win.

I use Pablo. $25 is worth it.

Got a Ryobi 18v string trimmer for light work around the house. Does OK. Got a Homelite gas powered too but dont use it as much. Got the Ryobi as a gift.

That’ll work too but might limit your options.

I roundup very close to the house and string gas trimmer what the mower doesn't catch. With an inch from the house of roundup. I can weedeat the rest in my perimeter pass to get the rest.
I use a stihl gas edger for the driveway and sidewalk. Make a quick pass through that area with the weedeater before making my pass around the property to weedeat the rest. It's essentially 0.75 walking speed to weedeat around the house on the way to the areas I have to finish off.

Weed eater, because I'm too cheap to buy a stick edger. My sidewalks inside the yard are all brick, so I don't want a stick edger blade chipping it up.
Large edgers are intended to cut new or thick edges at the beginning of the cutting year. They aren't intended to maintain edges

40v weedeater w/wheel on the side for edging. I can draw you a self portrait with that thing now. Lol

frick an edger. Unless you edging some shite that hasn’t been done in a year, a weed eater is all you need. And you don’t have to worry about slinging a chunk of your driveway through the back glass of your wife’s Tahoe like my neighbor did

Battery powered string trimmer. I live in the city with a typical city type yard. Trim around the fence and garden in the back and sidewalk, driveway and garden border in front.
Cutting my grass, edging and cleaning up takes less than 1 hr.
