2 and 1/2 year old Mini Aussie, about 9 months ago began getting real territorial around one of my kids. It's to the point where he will attack me or the wife (no pics) if we walk in the room or get too close to where she is sitting. Has attacked the wife 4 times now and bit hard enough to bruise and break skin. Dog is otherwise perfectly normal and loving. It's like an on- off switch flips in its head. Will attack you one minute then come to get a belly rub the next like nothing ever happened.

We also have young kids around him and I'm worried they won't heed his warning growls etc.

We put it up for Aussie rescue but I'm worried it's too aggressive to palm off on someone else.

Hadn't tried a trainer yet cause my gut tells me a trainer can't fix it.

Get a shock collar. Shock its arse every time it does that.

Then give treats for good behaviors or to build trust.

Show him who the frick is boss.

Dogs are not like cats, they will respect alpha behavior.

They might be able to actually.

Know a guy that rescued a husky that was really mean around people snipped at his kids when they got near his food (food guarding). A trainer basically corrected it.

Took a lot of work though. Now its a wonderful dog that is incredibly protective of the kids.

Get rid of it, any dog that I owned that growled at me would get lead poisoning.

Same thing happened with some people who were beating their child and the dog got protective.

You waited too long. It should have been socialized a long time ago. Aussie's can get protective if not allowed to be around lots of people early along with lots of exercise and play. Add on top of that the "faux" breeding which can cause more issues both behavioral and health. Breed-Doodle's have this same problem because you get breeders who just pump them out without protecting the breed. Puppy mills I mean.

I actually got into it with him a couple of times and beat him. He won't back down.

Shoot it. It's a 25 cent solution. No place on this planet for a dog that you are worried will hurt somebodh

Jesus Christ. Some people don't deserve pets.

This is pitiful

You can show that fricker who the alpha is. Punch him in the nose, flip him on his back, and grab his exposed jugular firmly.
