Get drunk and do B. Then crawl back the next day and see if you can do C.

I’m doing 3 things:
Buying a big arse ranch in Texas stocked with cattle, horses and wildlife. Fully staffed operation.
Buying a private jet
Owning a suite at tiger stadium, flying my PJ to and from BR 7 Saturdays per year.

I have no idea whether that’s enough but we can always curtail our elective spending
no debt and only household and insurance bills
Can’t take it with you and can’t buy more time
Yeah, dad had a plan and he wanted to get the most out of SS for him and mom. Wanted enough to live very comfortably for 20 years and have enough to pass on to the grand kids.

I know an 18 year old that became a millionaire on Sunday night. Life is not fair.

my wife will still be burning cash, and will likely burn it all before I reach retirement age.

I could definitely retire on that at 62 or so, but mid 40s would be too young.
You'd have to risk the principle to get much more than 4-5% on it, and we'd be looking at a pretty big lifestyle change to live on 80-100k pre tax hh income. Health insurance alone would eat us alive.
I'd keep working and see if I could turn it into 4m.

Work is a blessing. If you hate the job you're in, get another one that you can tolerate, even if it pays less. But don't think the pursuit of recreational pleasure will satisfy you. It won't. The joy of those hobbies will fade, and loneliness will be an issue. Additionally, you'll likely burn through the $2mill far quicker than you anticipate. When you do, you'll be out of the workforce for such a length of time that the same opportunities won't be available to you like they are today.
Additionally, by burning through your wealth, you eliminate the opportunity to impact your children and generations of your descendants. I'm in the same position you're in now. What currently motivates me, is the good that I can do with my wealth... particularly the good I can do for my children. I'm currently trying to ensure that I have enough to help my son (14 yo) or future son-in-law (don't even know who that'll be) to start his own business one day. My wife and I have been able to be really generous to our church body, to some local charitable works that are really meaningful to us, and to quite a few friends and church-folks that just needed a little help.
Men were made for responsibility and meaning. Hedonisitic pleasure is an inadequate replacement.
Work was not a curse of sin, it was blessing given to Adam so he would properly take his place in the world.
