Yeah, frick that shite. I'd be asking for a raise or telling them to go find someone with zero experience then. No way would I knowingly take on the responsibilities of 2 people with no raise.

My manager has told me that the company wants this to be seen as a lateral move because they don't want my current position to be a stepping stone for other employees into my upcoming role.

I love the bullshite rationalization some of these companies spew, and the fact that this somehow made sense in someone’s head

LOL bro they aren't happy with your work, and don't want you in the position you are in, but don't want to fire you, so they have created a new position just for you so they can hire a new hire in that will do better for them in your current position than you are.

Congratulations on sucking.

I am not the best at articulating my thoughts on to paper but I believe your reading comprehension sucks in this instance.

Man it sounds like you need to put foot to arse. More work for the same pay AND they pay you less than new hires?? That's fricked.

I want to be clear. My current pay is on par or above those in my current role.

If I was to take this new position and not receive a pay increase I would be making 11.5% less than any new hire that comes on board.

you, my friend, have been placed in a no win situation by the company that you have demonstrated a commitment to, to say or negotiate nothing confirms their impression of you as a "beta", attempts to negotiate will be viewed as hostile and you will be blackballed, their interest at your expense is the writing on the wall, good luck with either option...

How do you know you won’t get a raise? Seems like you are thinking prematurely. All signs point to you getting the raise as well to at least bring you up to what new hires in the new position would start at

Well I would hope they will at least raise you up to the same pay as a new hire would get for that job

I’ve been through this many times. It can be that you are a loyal employee that will always take more and not make waves. They’ll keep piling on with little to no increase.

You have to ask for it. If you are better in person or better in writing, each can have its own merits, but you will probably have to ask. Come with data/facts.

More work for same money...they helped your resume look better when you walk in six months...unless they're going to give you a raise under the table a little later and just didn't want other ppl to know. You'll know something in six months

Easy solution:if there is no difference in pay, say thanks but no thanks.

Why would you accept a lateral move? You could make a lateral move to a competitor and I guarantee they’d up your pay.

Tell them if they want to promote you then they need to pay you. Otherwise you are happy in your current role.

It’ll also show you how they really feel about you. If they either let you keep your current roll or force the “promotion” with no raise then you’ll know to look for a new company to work for.

That's the corporate version of stroking your hair and whispering "Shhh" in your ear while they stick it in your arse without lube.

That they'd even attempt this with you tells you all you need to know about how they'll continue to try to treat you. If you just bend over and take it while weeping quietly to yourself, they're just gonna keep doing it until they find someone hotter and newer to frick.

You need to be working for a company that buys you a nice dinner, gets you all lubed up and in the mood, and makes damned sure you come first.

Is this move kind of a backdoor into a position that you otherwise wouldn’t be qualified for?

Are you confident they could hire someone with that job description based on your salary?

I see this happen all the time. They give you more shite to do, yet do not want to pay for it. You are against a rock and a hard place. Bitch about it and they'll tell you to hit the road. Give them an ultimatum and they'll likely call your bluff....Or maybe they cave. But it's not likely.
