Invasive plant species and how they're everywhere destroying local ecology

I’m not close to being as alarmed as you, but I did think about this over the weekend pulling weeds. There are 3-4 species we did not have as kids. One in particular I never noticed until the mid 90s. Stubborn bastard that has million seeds under each leaf. Also we didn’t have pivot hedge in the woods back then. Now it’s everywhere.

How tired people seem to be.

Maybe it’s this state getting worse and people being exhausted, but I remember growing up we would be out and about at 7 AM on Saturday for breakfast, grocery shopping, or just to beat the heat in the summer and I’d see a good deal of other people. Not crazy packed, but people were out and about.

The other day I went for a long run at 6 AM, finished up close to 730 and there were so few cars it was crazy. I did see one guy passed out in front of a store, but it feels like people have lost their energy or something. It makes me sad.

Before 730 am is the only time of the day no one needs me before I turn my brain "on". After that I dont get to really relax until I sleep, so I am not going or doing anything that early. Especially on the weekends.

1. More adults work at fast food restaurants than teenagers. This is sad.

2. Apple TV. You can discuss the shows on corners of the internet, but out in the real world, no one knows WTF you are talking about.

Top Tier movies and TV shows are unfortunately a thing of the past.

This doesn’t mean I never enjoy a new one, but it seems like nothing made the last few years would be close to consideration as an all time classic.

+1

That could apply to a lot more than just plants today.

All the local dive bars in Baton Rouge are nearly gone.
There arnt really any day drinkers anymore.
Back in the day my Dad and his crew would party at lunch and go back to work. Or not.
Women don’t go to bars anymore.

People that you deal with lack critical thinking skills. Sometimes things don’t neatly fit in a decision tree/flow chart. Most people, especially younger ones, just lock up and don’t know what to do. They don’t even try to explore possible solutions. It’s pathetic and sad really.

How this universe and all other universes are the result of a bing bang caused by the massive energy released from the implosion of a new black hole.

Semi-related, how so many jobs that used to be teenager jobs now don’t hire under 18. You really need to be 18 and have a HS diploma to work at H-E-B?

There is a convenience store on Acadian that has Smoothie franchise sign and a Steak sandwich franchise sign on the building since opening years ago. They’ve never had either. It’s now just basically a liquor store. Gas prices are usually the highest in town. Indian ownership. Parking lot and landscaping trash.

Not to mention that when you go to pay with a card, you don't use the tap-to-pay terminal for the store, you use some portable terminal that charges you using a another stores name. Lots of weird shiz going on here.

Heard this before but no clue what types are invasive. You mind posting some? Would love to go down this rabbit hole.

I always wondered if the suburbian obsession with "mulching" every spring is actually good or bad for the environment.

Yup. Some used to use two registers in the old days to avoid portion of sales taxes.

No one talks about it because the answer is known and pretty clear.

Lightning bugs are affected by governmental mosquito control spraying, the same as mosquitoes themselves. If you live in an area that has regular mosquito control spraying (such as most of south Louisiana), you don't see lightning bugs anymore.

Meanwhile I've been in places like Ft. Smith Arkansas and Ft. Payne/Mentone Alabama in the summer and have seen tons of them.
