I was in a pinch the other day and needed some shoes for a trip so couldn't order online. Go into the Cole Haan store for some loafers and wingtips and this crap is prominently displayed.

Sales guy said everyone is complaining. They had no standard loafers - their bread and butter.

They saw the Crocs line of footwear booming and wanted in on the action.

Chia Pets started making products out of the mold of a Cole Haan loafer. Really got a bunch of people up in arms and they lost a lot of business in the loafer market because of it. Really sad story. Had to let go hundreds of coblers.

Love my Cole Haan's. Only complaint is that the metal holes guide rings come unattached from the hole which looks like shite

Marketing department has some heavy lifting. I bet the profit margin on them is criminal.

I gave up on them a long time ago. Mostly made in far east. Was owned by Nike for a while.

Also the brand is a tweener - it's not economical, and not high end. A tough place to be today.

Cole Haan shoes suck in the sense that they're no longer a quality "real" shoe maker

But, they have their place. The traditionally-styled zerogrands are great for traveling. They're light, surprisingly durable and they are perfect for when you need to walk 10 miles all over some city but then throw on a jacket to go to dinner.

I have several pair of the zerogrand stichlites. Great for what you're describing. I'm going to stay away from everything else in their lineup.
