Maybe the "average person couldn't bike 25 miles because the average person is pretty out of shape. But the average person between 15 and 50 that is even moderately active could bike 25 miles. Not at a 25mph pace though. Not sure where that came from but it wasn't in the OP.

I don't bike very often but in my experience, running 5 will tire you out more and feel like a tougher workout, but swimming 1 will actually be easier and a better full-body workout. Just my opinion.

Look back at the OP.

Amazing! For me personally swimming 1 mile would be equivalent to running 50 miles. Maybe even farther than that.

The OP said it can all be done in an hour, but didn't specify in his question that it had to be done in an hour.

For me swimming would be the easiest (give me 4 weeks and I could do 2 Miles in an hour.). Then running.

I've got no idea about cycling- I've had nothing but a mountain bike for the last 25+ years.

And I'm in no way an elite athlete- borderline fat arse- former rugby scrum.

That's not true. But thanks for articulating your reasons for that statement.

Serious question. What is your heart rate as you run 6 minute miles?

Swimming involves a ton of factors you aren't considering for the average person. First off, 90% of people won't even know how to properly breath to even make it an half an hour much less a full.

You are blinded by your experience in swimming. I'm not even arguing your caloric intake. Swimming is just much much harder.

Oh I agree with my experience influencing my answer. If we are talking about the average guy off the street, they wouldn't be able to do any of it.

I'm talking about from and energy expenditure standpoint for people that know how to do these activities.

I've swam a mile once. Don't remember how long it took. 10 years ago, I've run 5 miles in 30 minutes or less probably over 100 times. I've NEVER biked at a 25 MPH pace.

Not a badass, but yes, I have. Almost weekly tempo runs anywhere between 5-10 miles at 6 min/mile pace or just under for around 5 yrs straight. Took a couple yrs off from serious running, then did it again for about a 2 yr stretch.

Yeah, everyone should just man up and admit you were wrong, I was right. Biking wins.

2 miles in an hour is very impressive. Top Ironmen do 2 miles in 50-55 minutes

I agree with you. Most of these posters don't understand the average person can't even swim 400m nonstop, let alone a mile. Yes a person who swims for pleasure can swim a mile, but that is few and far between. I swim and I'd rank swimming the hardest of the three, then biking, then running.
