You're clueless

How so? I burn a lot more calories riding 25 miles than swimming a mile. That's a fact.

This is the OT, remember? It's follow the leader around here, if you go against the grain you're a moron.
biking 25 miles is easily the most strenuous activity out of the 3 in the OP.

I know. Forget my own actual experience. I'm still wrong and have no idea what I'm talking about.

I'm one of the few suckers who replied honestly when it comes to fitness threads on the OT. I'm in decent shape and nothing more and I don't think a 25 mile bike ride is very strenuous. It is basically the equivalent of a 12K.
Now doing it in an hour is tough but swimming a mile is tougher for most people. If you have a swimming background or never rode a bike, I can see it being different but not for the average person.

Edit: Didn't read the OP correctly. Hardest to do under an hour:
1. Bike 25 miles
2. Swim 1 mile
3. Run 5 miles
1. Bike 25 miles
2. Swim 1 mile
3. Run 5 miles

Someone submit it to mythbusters then, they'll prove the OT wrong

I'm in decent shape and used to ride a lot. On a mountain bike with slicks I could ride 25 miles at about a 17-18 mph pace. So that's 1:20 to ride 25 miles. I swim a mile in about 35 minutes. So yeah. The bike is a lot tougher. And the run would fall in the middle.

See what you described is more strenuous than a typical bike ride that I would do in a workout, stationary or on the road.

Riding 25 miles = very easy
Riding 25 miles in one hour= elite status. I ride at times as much as 200miles/week and can't get 25 in an hour. It's extremely difficult.

Swimming is easy if you doggy paddle and take your time

For everybody even talking about biking they are forgetting the most important thing. It depends on what type of bike you have. I promise you there are many bikes that y'all wouldn't be cruising 25 miles on.

I know what you are getting at but no. Treading water is not easy.

It has to be swimming. You use more muscles. Watch the Tour de France and you'll see riders with huge legs and pencil arms.
Personally I haven't swam a cumulative mile in my life. Probably not even half that. But I have run over 5 miles dozens of times. Biked 25 miles plenty of times but most of that leisurely. Just the fact that you can bike 25 miles leisurely without even sweating makes that the easiest.

No, it depends on what kind of terrain you are biking. 25 miles all downhill is easy cheesy, 25 miles all flat is easy, 25 miles all uphill is kill yourself territory (if not well prepped for it).

Apologies, did not read the OP thoroughly enough. Just simply biking 25 miles would be easiest, but OP asked for under an hour.
So...yeah, the bike would be toughest. Running would be by far the easiest bc of the slow arse pace needed for under an hour.

The average person can't swim a mile period. Even if given 2 hours.
Posted on 8/10/14 at 7:12 pm to LSUzealot
Nor could the average person bike 25 miles/hr for even 5 miles.
I've swam a mile once. Don't remember how long it took. 10 years ago, I've run 5 miles in 30 minutes or less probably over 100 times. I've NEVER biked at a 25 MPH pace.
