Fill potholes with them.

A good half of them are mentally ill or drug addicts. The rest are scam artists or (And people who are ignorant can't handle this) have chosen this way of life and will never go to a shelter because of the rules.
The first half need to be institutionalize until they can be treated or dried out and built back up.
The other half need to be jailed.

No hard evidence to back this up but I would bet that the half who are scamming folks are also largely made up of the mentally ill and addicts. Most of them have probably been in jail multiple times and if jail is capable of accomplishing anything what it does best is take first time offenders and turns them in to lifelong and accomplished criminals. Its also damned expensive to keep people in jail.
We have somehow managed to find $175 billion in the couch cushions to send to Ukraine. Personally I understand the need but the fact remains that we have given that much money Ukraine. There are an estimated 650,000 homeless people in the US. That is about $270,000 for everyone of them. Many of those are kids who are homeless with their families so its not 650000 "homes" needed. It seems like anytime there is an international crisis we look under the couch cushions and find a pile of money to aid our allies. I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but it is hard to imagine that $270,000 in assistance to, I don't know, the veterans who served this country who are among that 650,000 homeless population (approximately 7% or 45,500 men and women who volunteered to serve the rest of us who are now homeless) wouldn't make a difference for some of those lost souls. Drug rehab in the US averages about $25K. Prison costs a pile more in real dollars and in long term costs to society not to mention the individual.
I am not a Christian so I do not feel the need to judge other people the way so many people do BUT I find it disgusting that we can find $175 billion in the couch cushions to help Ukraine keep Russia at bay....again, I think it is necessary....but can't find , say, $4 billion to help the veterans who are homeless and maybe another $4 billion to help the kids.
The fact is we could, if we wanted to. We do not want to. We are perfectly fine with spending about $40K a year to keep people in crime finishing schools but can't find the money to keep veterans and kids out from under bridges sleeping at night. We ought to be ashamed of ourselves. We should insist that our leaders do better. There is no need to overspend on the homeless by arresting them and feeding and housing them...if we had a safety net for children that functioned and one for veterans that was equally effective there would be far fewer homeless people in this country. We do not care and that is the truth....in fact we despise those homeless veterans and children exactly the same amount as we do those who are neither and also homeless.

Examine your own finances and debt. Now ask yourself how long you could last in your present domicile if you lost your job plus had some catastrophic illness hit you or family members while you were unemployed and had no insurance.

Just kill all the ill people, mentally, physically or otherwise, just kill them. It is far more important that the rest of us do not have to deal with their illness than it is for them, most guilty of making bad decisions, to be allowed to provide any discomfort to the rest of us. Just exterminate them.

Isn't that how they developed Soylent Green?

They should have to pick up trash, clean up empty city owned lots, clean up graffiti, etc. as the original signs used to say "will work for food."
Make them work for their meals. The rest of us do.

First we need to understand that a life with no responsibility is attractive in times like these, so if we make homelessness easier, we should expect more of it.
In fact. I don’t understand how there aren’t more young men living a hobo lifestyle. Riding trains and smoking around a campfire wherever the weather is pleasant sounds pretty nice to me compared to sitting in this motherfricking office for forty years.
