I’m willing to bet most people ruining their and their friend’s/family’s lives with alcohol drink some more stiff shite than Keystone, or at least do some shots in addition to the Keystone. I just allign Keystone and Natty with trashiness and cheapness, not being an alcoholic.

You’d lose this bet.

My father was an alcoholic, died of cirrhosis of the liver. His go to was beer and the cheaper the better. Not that he couldn’t afford it, just was his preference. He wasn’t trash but he was frugal AF.

Not necessarily. Plenty of alcoholics that come from great families that had a predisposition to it. Crack or meth, there tends to be something fricked up in their childhood, but alcohol, cocaine, and heroin.... you could come from some good stock and had a healthy childhood. You just happened to have some genetic markers that made you susceptible to addiction to these chemicals that others around them didn’t.

Sorry for your loss. The alcoholics in my family tended to favor wine and liquor, so maybe that makes me a bit biased since they always went after the strongest thing they could get their hands on.

But where’s the difference between just enjoying something a lot and addiction?

Is it where it becomes detrimental to your life and relationships?

I mean if you did something every day, in moderation, and didn’t let it control you but instead mastered it...would that be better than someone who seldom did anything but when they did it always ended in a bad situation?

Or am I just justifying my own alcoholism?

I would say go frick yourself, but you have just been lucky enough not to experience addiction yourself. Yeah, in college the addicts I largely knew were a bunch of self serving assholes that went to the pawn shop on a regular basis, but someone dear in your life will inevitably suffer from it. Let’s say you get in a catastrophic car accident where you have to get multiple surgeries for months on end, your doctor wrongly prescribes you some medication, and then you becomes a heroin junkie thanks to trusting a doctor that was a hack. I hope this doesn’t happen to you, but it will to someone you know. This is a statistical certainty, and unlike you, I won’t be a fricking a-hole to you when you come looking for advice for yourself or how to handle a loved one.

I think you’re trying to justify it. If losing alcohol you think would be totally detrimental to your own life by losing it, then you might have an issue.

Not yet. About 4 Millers in at a hotel bar, but you’re just coming in here being a fricking a-hole. I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt that you haven’t been affected by addiction. Just stop being a fricking twat because I won’t be to you when it inevitably affects your life.
