I don’t own a house to sell.

I was starting college during the housing crash.

Fair enough. The housing crash was the beginning of the ‘08 recession. Not entirely the cause, but if we have a housing crash at this point, no one wins.

Yep.

While my firm is not overly large, our utilization has INCREASED with people working from home.

Brick and mortar is in trouble as it'll be seen now as overhead that can be cut drastically.

Hell, lease an office suit with one office and a conference room versus 10k square feet of needless, expensive floor area.

Less driving and more flexible hours seems to have helped but it'll be more significant of a boost when we aren't also providing childcare while working.

WFH just got a huge boost It's like a big social experiment and so far it's been very successful. Unfortunately that makes outsourcing easier as well.

I am curious to see if these larger corporations that rent out 12+ floors of commercial space will determine their employees can be productive working from home. And therefore not renew their lease in full and downsize to 10% of that space and just utilize a few select offices and meeting/training space.

I can definitely see this playing a role long term. It won't make a difference in my exact situation, but I can see A LOT of companies that decide they want to run leaner going forward make that decision.

Movie theaters

AMC seems to be hanging on for the moment, but it doesn't look good.

A week ago it was looking as though AMC Entertainment was inching closer to filing for bankruptcy protection as the coronavirus pandemic forced all movie theaters closed. Now, the theater operator has announced it plans to raise $500 million and should have no problem surviving well into the fall.

With owners hopeful there will be a July reopening, the threat of bankruptcy for AMC seems to have been pushed to the background.

AMC operates about 1,000 theaters globally, including 630 theaters in the U.S., and employs some 25,000 workers. It was forced to close in order to contain the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. The closure led to reports that AMC was talking to a law firm about a bankruptcy filing.

The theater operator carries nearly $4.9 billion in debt that was fueled by a growth-by-acquisition spurt that saw it buy up several rival theater operators. It had less than $300 million in cash at the end of March.
