So basically, your post is an unpaid ad for your eBay listings, am I right?

Yes, I’m advertising my sold items.

(That was sarcasm, if you didn’t catch it).

Did you ever sell that Mexican guy's painting you got in Denham Springs?

No, I kept it. It looks good next to my bar.

People that contribute diddly on here sure do like to crap on people that do. Imagine how boring this place would be if they had their way.

I just don't really think "antiques" re: reselling dated (but not really interesting) electronics and stadium cups. He does occasionally have some genuinely interesting stuff, but most of it is just picking over yard sales to make 5 bucks here, 12 bucks there. I guess it's a reasonable way to make some money if you enjoy it.

The items I sell for $5-$20 are not bought knowing the value of before hand, and I usually only pay pennies for them, or they were in a big lot of items.

My main goal is to shoot for a 50:1 or higher pay off or any item that sells for $1000 or more (which I’ve only done twice in 20 years). If I just bought these, I would be losing money on my hobby because of gas and time alone.

It’s the internet, it doesn’t bother me, plus I enjoy making them look like asses, just like the other day with the Stradivarius.

I love AT's threads. IDK why anyone would shite on him - this stuff is interesting - a lot better than 20 fricking COVID threads on the first page. Keep 'em coming AT. These and Vader's models are about the only threads that I open every time that don't involve scantily clad women.

Now do a breakdown of all the hours you spend shopping, cleaning up items, photographing, posting, boxing and shipping, fuel burned driving around and share what you are making per hour.

How is this even relevant?

Lets say it comes out to $5 per hour. Okay, so what?

If your hobby is sitting on your arse watching sports and drinking beer, or fishing, or hunting, or playing golf, and someone said "I'll pay you $5 per hour to do that", would you tell them no? Or would you say "well, I was going to do it anyway because I enjoy it, I might as well make $5 an hour doing it"?

Learn the ins and outs of two or three items you like and would have a good chance of finding at a garage sale. Start there, and while you are at a garage sale and you find something interesting cheap, buy it (or look it up on your phone). See what it sells for. Now learn that item and similar items.

TD member “Idrivethefiretruck” has started shopping garage sales with me. He knows Coleman lanterns. He is way more knowledgeable than me. He looks for those. He will pick some other random item up and ask me about it.
The other day, he picked up a Bulova watch for $1. He asked me if he should get it. I told him I will if he doesn’t. He sold it for $52.

What I learned in this thread - Judas Priest and Kiss fans will spend more than Iron Maiden fans.

Older gay males have more expendable income because they usually don’t have kids.

I misread you post. I thought you were asking me how do you get into it.

I started 20 years ago before smartphones. I had to buy anything I found interesting and wait til I got home to see the value. So, I’d spent a lot of time looking up my buys, and I would look at similar items that were worth the big money. Back then, I’d set a limit on what I spent. I would only bring $20, and only buy $1-$3 items. If I bought a $5 item, I had to know it was worth good money. Back then, if I sold an item for $25, I was happy as shite. I would just roll my earnings into the next week hunt.
Now, it’s nothing to drop a couple hundred a weekend. I dropped nearly $600 last weekend.
My first ever $100+ item was a backgammon set. I paid $3 for it. What made it different than all the other sets I saw all the time, it had Pierre Cardin all over it (cups, chips, case, etc). I bought it in the neighborhood that’s just to the right of CCLA.

I want to know how you shipped the kitchenaid for only $17 Edit: Is your eBay name the same as your username here?

On large items, I use FedEx Home Delivery (drop off at Walgreens). When doing shipping through eBay, I get a massive discount on shipping (esp FedEx and UPS), sometimes up to 35% off.
USPS discount is usually around 15-20%.

I generate, pay, and print through eBay, using their discount they get from these shippers.

Plus, sometimes I under estimate shipping a few dollars, sometimes I over estimate shipping a few dollars, so it’s a wash.

That's pretty nice, usually I only get a small percentage off. Guess my volume wasn't high enough for them

With all the pay for item and shipping you have bound to have seen your share of internet scammers.
The number of pay/shipping scams is crazy with the few items I move on FB marketplace.

Probably the worst marketplace out there for doing anything not in person

Not really hard to spot out scams on eBay
