But I didn't and I haven't played since then.

I would have to start from scratch to play again.

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is today.

Pick up your sax, dude. I'm sure through all your time in this world, you know a few people who play bass/guitar/drums... Call them up. Start a band.

I'm in a few bands now... one of which has been active (off and on) for almost 25 years. Another which has been active almost 13 years. And today these dudes are literally some of my best friends in the world. My kids have always been into sports but I've always told the other parents on our teams to not discount the idea of their kids starting a band or joining one. There's nothing in this world like being in a group of people, forced to come up with a plan. Forced to put on a good show.

Seriously. Start a band. I'll never have enough gratitude for God pointing me in that direction. It's truly wonderful.

Piano - 6-12 then picked it up again after college. It was my first major purchase. Still have it although I haven't played in 10 years. It's a nice place to put my collection of nativity scenes during the holidays.

Clarinet - 9-12 grades!

What was the name of the band? We use to go see the Shieks at Sheila's.

It's been so long, and he's been in so many bands that I can't remember.

It may have been called Foxfire.

Percussion. Played snare all through jr and high school.

My sympathies go out to any parents who had kids into drums.

guitar here, 40 year beginner

Same. Been playing for 46 years and still suck. Play rhythm only, no lead.

I took lessons in school during 7th & 8th grade but just learned the basic notes and chords. Music teacher hadn’t played guitar before so he learned as he taught us. A friend gave me lessons later, which is where I learned barre chords, songs, and eventually how to play by ear.

I’m still playing 46 years later, but mostly crank out the same Metallica/Judas Priest/ACDC type ‘80s metal that I played back then. I do have a nice guitar collection that far outweighs my ability, though.

Trumpet from 5th grade to freshmen year.
Then learned drums, bass, guitar on my own for fun. Joined a band with a few friends in high and managed to play one gig then I quit. They wanted some awful sounding girl to be our vocalist. Didn’t like the direction of trying to be the next paramore so I bounced.

Played saxophone for the last 35 years. Wow, I should be way better at it after all that time.

Was "forced" to take band as a 5th grader and loved it, played in high school, played at LSU in various bands. Played in various groups around Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Gulf Coast, etc. Don't play as much anymore.

Took saxophone lessons in middle school and high school only.

Self taught tuba, but never got any good.

Playing an instrument opened doors for me and gave me opportunities I wouldn't have had otherwise. Made life long friends and connections that lead to my career (non-music).

Phantom Regiment is one the top 5 drum corp outfits in the world, if your friend was marching with them then he was very good. Shame he ended up on the streets

I'm 99% sure it was Phantom Regiment. That's the only drum corps I can name, so it's safe to assume it's bc that's the one I watched him in. This was also back in the 2003-2006 range, so I don't know if they were that good back then. But yeah, he was an insanely talented drummer.

Yeah I hate seeing what has happened to him. Sadly, the habits all started in that drum corps. He was my closest friend all through middle and high school.

They were. Top 5 placements in world championships every year during that time period. I knew multiple people in the group during the late 80's early 90's.

I took a beginners guitar elective course in college. I had 5 core courses so the elective put me at 16 hours for the semester. It was the only course that semester I didn't make an A in

Saxophone. Started on alto, moved to tenor in junior high, played through high school. Recruited into a decent jazz band at 15 and played semi professionally until I graduated.
