started with trumpet in 6th grade, but i sucked at it

switched to baritone in jr high

migrated over to French horn/mellophone in high school

plunked around on piano at home but never really committed

picked up guitar and again didn’t really get good with it

then my highschool band director asked if i would play bass guitar for our spring jazz band concert

48 years later, i’m still at it

spoiler alert: i think i’ve gotten pretty good

I have been playing guitar since age 11, in and out of bands my whole adult life. I’m 38 and I still play every single day. It has been a life of devotion and obsession.

From the first time I heard SRV’s Texas Flood I was hooked. I grew up in a house that had KC & the Sunshine Band, CCR, Boston, Prince, Journey, AC/DC cranked up all the time, my parents liked to party.

All of the kids in the friend circle got instruments. We all still play to this day. My brother is an insanely talented drummer.

Saxophone, Guitar, and banjo well enough to say I can play the banjo, but that's about it.

Oh... does the recorder count? If that does... then.. well... everyone who at least went to school in the 70s and early 80s knows that one.
