Deletes text/calls/emails daily because he is convinced they will fill up his phones data.
Refuses to look at the TV remote to figure out how to change the channel.

Got you beat. She wrote them down in her notebook. Then lost the note book.

My son asked me why I hoisted my Cub Cadet a couple ft off the ground to replace a Lawn Mower blade.
I told him, when you get 80, you will understand.
In regard to hoarding things, its a habit as a result of growing up in poverty.
Its ingrained in our minds that wasting requires spending.
It worked for me. Grew up in poverty, now a pay cash for new vehicles. $$

They always call to tell me about someone dying or someone they ran into the other day that told them to tell me hi.

I have a buddy whose grandfather saved his fingernail and toenail clippings. He put them in Country Crock bowls and stored them on a long wooden shelf that he built in the garage. He probably had every fingernail and toenail clipping he’d ever clipped.
It was both weird and creepy. No one had the courage to ask him why.

Parents born in and around the Great Depression do all sorts of odd things that make you shake your head today. It was bad for them as kids and effected their perception in areas such as security, savings, fears etc.
My dad loved butter because he was raised on "oleo" cause they didn't have no butter for a few years
ETA. My dad wrote down every tank of gas and oil change and repair with date, price per gallon, how much it cost total, how may gallons and mileage etc in a notepad he kept in the glove box.
I asked him why and he said because he wanted the next owner to know that he took care of the car.
I miss that man.

My mother still sends checks in the mail to pay her bills. She had her water cut off once a few years ago because the check got lost in the mail. Yet, she still does it.

Good luck getting them to change but feel free to reference my 3 fractured lumbar caused by simply plugging in an electrical cord at an odd angle.
It may eventually resolve as they get older and more afraid of injuries/falls.

MIL absolutely refuses to turn on her cell phone unless she wants to make a call. Then, she turns it off again.
Honestly - this sounds civilized. I assume I will read about this life hack in some article about mindfulness in the near future.

My mom washes and reuses paper towels.
To be fair, she likely does it because she constantly wipes my son’s mouth or cleaning up after him and doesn’t want to go through a roll a week. But still, it just seems…..unnecessary.

Watch Fox News 24/7 and yell at the tv.
Well they used to sit and watch the latest and greatest soaps, but I think there are only 3 left now.
They replaced some them with trash talk TV like the View, and with everything politicized now of course they would gravitate to Fox News.

My parents are working out of two fridges. And two deep freezers.
That's about as bad as my mama and her husband. They have four refrigerators and two deep freezers. Every one of them packed about tight as a drum.

“My dad wrote down every tank of gas and oil change……”
I do all that also. Also keep records on my 3 tractors, golf cart and zero turn mower.
Worse than that,I write down all the rain I get, total it for the month and year.
Do same for eggs my chicken lay.
Drives my wife nuts, when you get old have to get your entertainment where you can.

I love this thread. We’ll all be there one day too, hopefully anyway. Old people are cool.
