A light brush away with a broom would have been just as effective as a shovel, you'd likely never have seen the snake again, and the local rodent population would have continued to diminish. Instead, you've firmly established that there are at least 2 people with vaginas in your household, not including any daughters you may have.

Recently saw one along the drainage behind my house. Resisted the urge to remove his head only because these guys can kill moccasins.

I found one too about 3 weeks ago.


And this guy last week crossing a busy street. I relocated him to a better area.

That's a speckled king snake. Some people call them salt and pepper king snakes. Great to have around
