Mossberg 500 with #4 birdshot or #1 buckshot. 00 buck tends to go thru people and walls (depending on wall construction), called over penetration. Dont want to kill a family member in the next room or neighbor if you live in an apt complex. Also shooting a fire arm especially a shotgun indoors with no hearing protection is an incredibly disturbing and disorienting experience.

This one is available at may local gun store.I think its the same one.

The one I had before the boat accident was matte black, 3 inch with pistol grip and 6 position synthetic butt stock. I added a small flashlight mount near the muzzle. Probably a bit cheaper than that hunting rig, but that is a nice weapon you posted

If you're dead set on getting a shotgun as your primary home defense weapon at least get the right one.

That is a turkey gun designed to concentrate the shot at long range for turkey hunting. If you get that gun you would need to change the choke to full open. Not sure if it comes with multiple chokes or not.

Again, even a shotgun with a short barrel and full open choke has a very small spread at short distances (IE where you would be aiming at a person).

If you really want a shotty, Remington 870. Excellent shotgun. However, I use a pistol for home defense. I can maneuver much better around tight corners with it. It really all falls on what you prefer and, more importantly, what you practice with.

Why do you say that it’s junk? It’s one of the most commonly bought shotguns.

AR15 would be better. Lighter recoil. shite load more capacity and the ability to engage targets at short and long range.

inb4 “you'll kill someone on the next street with that"

Google how many walls buckshot can go through before you spout that nonsense.

Article on penetration of pistol, shotgun and rifle.

You can also buy fragmentation rounds for your AR so it doesn’t penetrate as much. I would just say make a pistol build. Slap a brace on it. A full length rifle can be tricky to maneuver inside.

I have a .22lr. I figure if I need more firepower than that then I’m fricked anyway.

I'm partial to the Saiga 12. Nothing says Murica like an AK patterned Russian 12 gauge with a 20 round drum.

Remington quality went downhill bad. Stamped parts and fit and finish leads to Failures. I’ve seen it personally with a 12 ga Ultra Mag. It’s a wide known problem.

Obviously didn't read all of that, plus the linked articles in the link, but were those tests using slugs?

The 870's have gone to shite, along with many other Remington products. Sadly they just aren't made like they use to be.

A Mossberg 590A1 will do just fine, but if you are willing to spend the money I would seriously recommend a Benelli M2 tactical or Benelli M4 tactical. Benelli makes the finest tactical shotguns on the market.

My first bit of advice, is don't buy a shotgun for home defense, you will be much better off with a semi-auto rifle or a semi auto pistol. I'd recommend a quality AR-15, quality AK-47 or Quality full size pistol in 9mm.

My second bit of advice if you ignore my first bit of advice, buy a Benelli M4. They are the best shotgun for defense in the world. They are so good you might as well concede that other shotguns do not exist.
